On the Xbox controller, hold the right trigger to destroy blocks by continously punching. By pressing it once, you can hit something (attack) which is important.
The left trigger places blocks. When holding a block in hand, just press the left trigger while the little plus (+) sign in the centre of the screen is on a block already in the world, and it will place the block there.
The yellow Y button opens your inventory. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a bar with several squares, which items you have picked up will be. But, if you want to select different item which you have also picked up to use, then they will be in your inventory. Just drag them to the item bar at the bottom and you will be able to use them.
After you have a load of items in the bar, you can switch items by pressing the left and right bumpers. Then you can use the different items.
The red B button drops the item in your hand. You can walk over to the item on the floor in order to automatically pick it up. It will then either appear in your bottom bar, or your inventory if the bar is already filled.
The blue X button takes you to crafting. More things to craft will become available with a crafting table.
The green A button makes you jump.
The left thumbstick is to move around, the right thumbstick being to look around. It turns your head.
If you press down the right bumper, it makes you move slower, AKA, sneak mode.
