I reached out to Scott and texted him about the conversation that I had with his father. I felt relieved that somehow, I wouldn't have to mislead him anymore and carry the burden of causing him humiliation with my previous mistakes.
However, I don't expect him to make a reply because, in his regard, I was just a stranger he happened to encounter at various wedding ceremonies. Our connection felt like it was but a random chance, that it wasn't meant to be. Despite that, everything I shared with him, and the emotions, the experiences were sincere. Unfortunately, my job made things complicated between us just because I longed for a lasting memory with him.
On the final day of film shooting, I got back to work to fix a script sequence that David, had done erroneously. I noticed the inquisitive glances from some of the actors, but I didn't question why they were baffled. Maybe one of them had figured out the real personalities in the novel they were portraying already. Nevertheless, I followed Sid's advice and chose not to provide any further reasons.
"It's a fair thing you chose to come back, Danni," David said as he handed me some of the manuscripts I needed to check. "You were gone for a few months, and I'm afraid our boss will take away that from your salary."
I sighed. "I know that, David. Need you to keep reminding me? It's not important at this point," I reacted, stress creeping into my voice, but then David shrugged. "Well, fair enough. So, what's your plan now? Is everything back on track?"
"Sid and I had already discussed it thoroughly." I focused my gaze on David as I jotted down some notes. "Sid and I have talked, and I've decided to add something to the final sequences," I informed him, my eyes never leaving his.
Concerned tinged David's voice as he inquired, "What is it? I'm dying to know."
A smile played on my lips as I replied teasingly, "You'll find out soon enough. Just be patient."For the entire week, I stayed on the set, lost in my thoughts, pondering over what I could include in the final piece of the story. Unbeknownst to me, David and Andrew had been constantly joking around and chuckling with each other as they drew near me.
"Why on earth are you here?" I asked as Andrew moved toward me with a cup of coffee. "Don't you still have work in Brooklyn? What about your "real" job?"
"Dad allowed me to visit you," Andrew reacted sarcastically. "You know, when it comes to you, they always compromise."
He had used my name as a way to get around once again. I couldn't help but feel wary of his real intention of being with both David and me. Speaking of the devil, David breaking into our conversation, chimed in. "Danni, can you and Andrew please stop arguing? We still need to finalize the script by tomorrow."
I sighed, growing frustrated with the tension between us. "Alright, guys, where do we fit into the story now? Maybe I can get some help here; just let me know."
Seconds later, Andrew had peered over my laptop, I couldn't help but wonder about the ending of the film, though. But despite my hesitation, I realized that possibly, with Andrew's help, we could create a satisfying ending. Working together, we managed to finish the script just in time for the last week of filming. It was a relief to see the actors who had seemingly held a grudge against me complete their scenes without further issues.
I thanked him for his help and invited him for coffee at our favorite café, a place that held sentimental value to both of us during our time of dating. Reflecting on the past, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia, not because of the film, but rather due to the actions I took to move on from him.
"Think about it, huh? You and Scott were simply taking advantage of each other, but as it turned out, you both ended up benefiting greatly from the arrangement," Andrew proudly clamored, causing me to feel a pang of embarrassment.
"Shh! Please be quiet. What are you even saying? It's not fair for you to make such assumptions. Scott would never use me, just so you know," I retorted, feeling both challenged and intimidated by Andrew's words.
"Alright, if that's what you believe. But from my standpoint, you have done an incredible job of gaining clarity considering your relationship with Scott. That was the best choice you could have made, Danni," Andrew finally admitted, conceding to the realization that his previous thoughts were unjust.
"Do you think so? Do you think he will ever be able to forgive me?" I inquired, a sense of unease washing over me.
"Well, if he can't find it in his heart to forgive you, then perhaps he never truly loved you. Maybe he was just searching for a way for you to not consider yourself a rebound," he suggested, offering me some food for thought.
