"Oh, Honey! Aren't you excited? Your first day of highschool!" Jack's mother says happily to her younger son, Austin, as she drives down the road to drop her sons off at school.
"Oh yeah. Rumors, slutty girls, parties, jerks who will probably beat me up on the first day, yeah, very exciting" Austin says in an annoyed tone making Jack laugh a little bit.
"Bro, its just like Middle School. Just middle school doesn't have slutty girls." He jokes, earning himself a death glare from his mother in the rearview mirror. "I'm not gonna lie to him, Mom" Jack laughs as they pull up in front of the school. They both hop out of the car, Austin getting a kiss from his mother, making him roll his blue eyes.
"Take care of your brother!" She yells to Jack and Jack smirks.
"Come on Austin, let's get you a slutty senior girl and weed." He jokes, once again getting a glare from his mother. The car door is slammed and the two brothers start to walk to the school doors.
"I can't believe she actually came back this year" a group of girls whisper to themselves as they walk down the hall.
"I know. You would think she'd know better to show her face at school." Another girl whispers but Jack ignores them and throws his arm around his little brother's shoulders.
"I wonder who they're talking about." Austin says curiously as they continue down the long hallway of lockers. Farther and farther down the hallway they walk together, laughing about how Mom burned the meatloaf last night so they had to order pizza for the fifth time this week and how the hot pizza delivery girl completely ignored Jack's pick up lines at the door.
At the end of the hallway is a guy with jet black hair and tan skin wearing a white muscle shirt and jeans. He is standing over a small girl with auburn hair, wearing a black long sleeve shirt and jeans. She looks like she's mad with this guy but also too shy to push him away. With in a matter of seconds she attempts to push him away, he doesn't budge, whispers something to the girl, then quickly turns and leaves. Jack can't help but watch the scene, in slow motion it seems like. He can't seem to understand why though. Jack has never cared about anyone except his little brother. The girl slowly slides down the surface of the locker to the hallway floor. Her face buried deep into her knees.
"Whose that?" Austin asks and Jack hits him in the back of the held. "Ow!" Austin yells and rubs the back of his head. "That hurt!" He says but Jack isn't listening. He is already walking towards the girl sitting on the ground at her locker.
He finally makes it to her and he clears his throat awkwardly.
"Are you okay?" He asks and the girl's head jerks up and her dark eyes stare up at him, she shoulders still shaking from crying. She wipes away a few stray tears with her sleeve and nods. "Are you lying to me?" Jack asks and she look of confusion is shot to him.
"Is that always how you talk to crying girls?" The girl asks and he smirks slightly.
"Never really had that much experience with crying girls." Jack says truthfully as he sits down next to her "Jack" he says putting out his hand to the crying girl and she hesitantly takes his hand and shakes it.
"Tessa." She states and he smiles at her warmly. Her shyness slowly starts to take over, and so does an anxiety attack. Suddenly her lungs won't function and her blood runs cold. Her vision starts going blurry from fear of being this close to another human. "I gotta go" she manages to stammer out and quickly gets to her feet, completely leaving everything behind.
"Wait!" Jack yells after her but it's too late. She's gone. Far down the hallway. Jack gets to his feet and leans his shoulder against the locker, unlocking his phone, going to Tanner, his best friend, in his phone. "Yo, Dude. I gotta question. Whose Tessa?" He types and slides his phone back into his pants pocket.
"Why'd you run off like that?" Austin asks as he finally walks up to his older brother.
"I should be asking her the same question." Jack states and brushes his light brown hair out of his eyes.
"You're gonna get labeled as a stalker one day, Bro" Austin jokes and pulls his brother to the office to get their schedules.
