I texted him the next morning if we could go on another date. He confessed that he was also going to ask the same thing bc on his end the date went well. We brainstormed a few date ideas till we just settled on him inviting me to his place. He said he had a pool and a poker table.
Generally, conversationally I like to observe how I want to act before I'm bringing up a situation. But for some reason, the assertive part of me took the wheel and ran with it.
I finally drove to the address he gave me, I was in disbelief getting into the residence the luxurious house looked like a hotel. I spotted a man coming out from the door behind the fountain.
"Zephron! How wonderful to have you again" He proceeded towards me his hands tied behind his back.
"Beautiful house." I waved at it. Trying not to be caught in the awe of it all.
"Thank you, darling" He gestured for me to come inside.
The halls were massive, rounded, and architecturally mesmerizing. I was not stepping into the home of a single man right now.
And for some reason that sounded more depressing.
"Do you..live alone?" a thought escaped my lips.
"Well, I have Archie" Ah yes, a cat.
Unless it was familiar.
"Douxie." I stopped. He did the same and looked at me. Waiting.
"You're a wizard." he furrowed his brow at that comment. It was unexpected and I could see that. He laughed uncomfortably taring at me directly assuming I was making a joke. I rolled my eyes mentally. He still wants to keep the facet up.
"I mean your an actual wizard. I figured it out. Archie. He's your familiar I suppose?" I felt the assertivity of it all, the feeling manifesting in a knot in my chest.
"He's a half dragon half cat." His eyes batted, trying to take it in, and his chest heaved a sigh sinking inside. His gaze dropped.
"I assume you know that bc you're one yourself" His voice lowered to a whisper even though we were alone. I paused.
"...yes." I finally whispered. Silence lingered between us as wordless gazing was exchanged. We knew what were exchanging. Empathy for immortality. Empathy for the world. Burden of power. The burden of loneliness.
I took his hand. and neared him enough to give him a sneaky whisper.
"I'm sure all this luxury didn't just come from the clubs now huh." He let out a small laugh as I did.
"Generational wealth." He replied. Looked away as we start walking again, this time shoulder to shoulder.
I smirked at him and rose a brow."Generational but you are your own grandson." That turned his smile into a subtle frown.
"It is hard to maintain it every day. I've come to realize I hate lying." He stated. A question immediately popped into my head.
"So you had to lie about the Clubs?" I retorted, in a bit more aggressive fashion than I had liked. He paused.
"No, I never lied about that." He took a deep breath."I suppose you questioning why my clubs are in a whole different place than I am?" He stopped looking directly at me.
To be honest, if I had given it a thought I would figure it out.
"I started from there, it was my home place, but I didn't want to go there bc I have a history there with some...people. I did not want to stir trouble so when the opportunity came to me I took it but I kept my distance and kept cautious. It was perfectly done, which was quite unlike me bc I do tend to trip up a lot. despite it all, it went fluidly."
I stared at him. I wouldn't have figured that out. What type of trouble do you have to get into to never want to look back at it ever again? I wanted to ask more questions but I kept my mouth sealed.
"I see." Was all I could allow myself to say. He eyed me enticingly.
