The bright sunlight shining through the windows made it more difficult for me to open my eyes, or want to wake up for that matter, but I was awake and a roll to the left and to the right sounded ideal and almost what I needed, and so I did. I got a little carried away with rolling and so I ended up on the floor. Ouch! I was so distracted by the back pain caused by my sleepiness that noticing the clock tick to exactly seven took me a little longer than expected. Ringggg. Why... I stood up, not even bothering to pick up the clock and place it back. I jogged directly to the bathroom continuously rubbing my eyes. Arriving to the sink took me longer than I anticipated, but I made it without walking into a wall or a table. Yes, memories flowed back into my mind as my brain realized it was time to really wake up.
Several minutes after I was done with my make-up and you know what else, I finally walked out of the bathroom and stopped. What am I doing? I shook my hair, unsurprisingly having to notice that it was tangled. A few hairs falling while I had to struggle with pulling my fingers out, oh, the joy of having curly hair. The only thing I liked about it was the color of mixed caramel and light chocolate.
Time, was exactly what I didn't have, and I could already imagine Katherine running inside the room screaming and complaining about making her late for school. I immediately decided to get dressed, and so I walked to the closet and picked out a red tank and a pair of dark blue jeans. I was damned if outside was windy. Regarding how taking a sweater with me would mean carrying it around, something I always avoided. Yes, it was a silly way of thinking.
"Abbie!!! Wake up, we're late-" Katherine came in running, just like I predicted. "Oh, you're, ehm, awake?"
"Surprised?" I laughed.
"No," she lied. It was all over her guilty smile.
"Go get the car keys," I ordered unintentionally. Her father would flip if he'd catch me ordering around in his home.
I walked out of the room as soon as I put my sneakers on and grabbed my bag. I ran downstairs, hoping I wouldn't stumble down the stairs.
I stood by the main entrance, waiting for Katherine to get downstairs with the keys, but I had a weird feeling that things would go quite the opposite today.
I found Katherine running down the stairs. Her face expression was by far cheerless. "We might need a bus."
"Is your dad even home?" I opened the door, to check for a sign of her father's car.
Katherine ran past me, throwing her bag on the floor. Her cotton-like dress floatingly swaying while she was running seemed to look like she was walking on air. "STOP!" she yelled at the bus which I had observed while standing motionless.
I immediately went to pick up Katherine's bag and stepped outside the house to see Katherine run after the bus.
For a brief moment I could not move, and my whole body felt numb on the other hand, my emotions seemed to have strengthened. I could feel the wind against my skin twice more than I'd usually feel it, and the smell of freshly cut grass and the feeling of a strong willingness to do something, I couldn't quite understand what was happening to me, I just knew everything around felt closer than usual, even Katherine's racing heartbeat as she ran after the bus seemed to be heard despite how far she was getting. What's happening to me?
As soon as that feeling vanished, I found myself bolting towards Katherine. Having two bags on both shoulders jump up and down along with me as I ran.
"Now you decide to come?" she said, annoyed by my late attendance. I handed her bag and gave her a I'm-sorry-I-froze-smile.
"Is everything okay, Katherine?" a familiar voice came from behind.
"No, everything is not okay," she whined.
I turned around, meeting Sebastian's green eyes, "everything is fine."
