As a kid Kaito would watch from the side while Giyuu trained to become a Demon Slayer along with his best friend Sabito and Sabito's sister, Makomo.
Watching them learn Water Breathing, he realized it was no easy task. Almost every evening they would come into the former Water Hashira's home to be covered in sweat and grime.
Mr. Urokodaki would always sternly tell them to clean up before dinnerAs Kaito laid on his futon, he turned his head to look at his brother, Giyuu. "Hey Nii-san."
Giyuu turned his head to look at Kaito. "What?"
"When you three come back from the Final Selection, where am I going to go?" Kaito nervously asked knowing he could stay at Mr. Urokodaki's forever.
"Well.." Giyuu frowned pausing for a the moment. "I'm not sure." It broke Giyuu's heart knowing he wouldn't see his brother that often, but what mattered most was that his little Otouto was safe.
Kaito sighed and rolled onto the other side looking away from Giyuu, what Giyuu couldn't see was the small tear that fell from Kaito's eye onto the white futon.
A few days past and the three teenagers were about to leave for their journey to the Final Selection.
"Do you really have to go, Nii-san?" Kaito asked his older brother, hugging him tightly.
Giyuu sighed and looked down at his younger brother, wrapping his arms around the boy. "Yes I do."
Tears started pouring out of Kaito's eyes onto Giyuu's dark red Haori. "What if something happens to you-" the boy paused as his tears were being wiped away by a red sleeve.
"I'll be fine." The Older Brother said before removing his arms off Kaito.
After a few minutes Kaito stopped sobbing and Giyuu, along with the other two took their leave. They'd be back in around a week and a half.
It was a long week for Kaito, he had nobody to hang out with besides old man Urokodaki, which never wanted to hang out with the boy.
Then the day finally came and Kaito was excited see Giyuu, Sabito and Makomo back at home. Tears filled the boys eyes when he only seen Giyuu walk up to the small home.
Giyuu walked straight past the boy and into the Wooden house, a gloomy look appeared on his face.
When Kaito went to open the door, he couldn't something or someone was blocking his way in. "Nii-san..." The boy whispered only to have no response.
The voices in the house were quiet, then it started to get louder and louder to the point both males were yelling at each other.
"I don't want Kaito joining the Corps.!" Giyuu stormed, crossing his arms.
"Giyuu! Are you even listening to me?!" Mr. Urokodaki asked, anger could be heard in his voice. "Did you not see the amazement in Kaito's eyes as he watched you train? He looks up to you, yet you are now just shutting him down."
"As his older brother, his only relative. I will decide whether or not he becomes a Swordsman." He sternly said, "I'll make sure of it by removing him from your care."
Mr. Urokodaki's eyes widened, "Where would Kaito go, you think he would enjoy being with a total stranger.?"
"It doesn't matter as long as he doesn't join the corps."
The door opened and Kaito rushed to Giyuu, hugging him as tight as the boy could manage.
"Where's Saboto and Makomo?" Kaito asked his brother, looking up he could see his brothers face was filled with anger and sorrow.
"Dead." Giyuu said coldly before going down to Kaito's height, placing his hand tightly on the boys shoulder. "I don't want you joining the Demon Slayer Corps, you'll end up dead."
Tears fell from Kaito's eyes, he couldn't believe what he was hearing. His Nii-san was alive yet his two friends were dead. "Let go of me." He asked, Giyuu's grip on the boy only tightened. "It's your fault they're dead." He stormed, forcefully taking Giyuu's hand off of him.
Giyuu's eyes widened in surprise at what his Otouto said, his own brother blames himself for the deaths of Sabito and Makomo. "What-"
"I'm becoming a Demon Slayer whether you like it or not!" The boy hissed, anger filled the boy's feelings towards the male.
A few days past and Giyuu received his first mission.
"Can I have a hug, Kaito.?" Giyuu asked his brother, who didn't even look at him. Giyuu sighed and left the home he trained in, who knows when he would see his brother again.
