Matthew's pov from the ending of chapter 3
----------------"Shit! This is bad!" Joseph exclaimed, still in bed but more awake and panicked. He quickly jumped up and began to dress. "Will she tell?" I inquired with my own worried tone. "Who knows?" he responded as we both started to dress.
For the next minute or so, we dressed in silence. "I doubt she will... but we can't be sure," Joseph stated as he then sat on his bed, holding his head in his hands. "We could be executed if this gets out," he added, tears falling from his blue eyes.
I sat next to him and laid my head on his shoulder. "We can talk to the maid at lunch. We'll get through this," I reassured him. I grabbed his hand, holding it in mine, and we just sat there for who knows how long. In that moment, everything and everyone else seemed to fade away. The accident, the looming marriage, his father – none of it mattered in this moment. It was just us.
"Can this be more than a one-time thing?" Joseph asked quietly.
"I would like that," I replied, looking into his soft blue gaze with a smile.
"So, boyfriends...?" he asked.
"If that's what you want, then yes," I affirmed. Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed me, not a rough kiss like the one from last night, but soft and tender. I kissed him back until he pulled away. He ran a hand through his hair and said, "I need to head into town soon. Wanna come along?" I nodded and went to fix my hair in the mirror. Joseph stood behind me, watching with a smile. He stepped forward a bit, messing with my hair and kissing me on the cheek before stepping back. "That looks good," he said with a smile.
"Ready to go now?" he asked.
"Yeah. We should talk to the maid before we leave. She must be shocked," I suggested.
(Walking time skip)
"Sky? Can we talk?" Joseph asked while approaching the maid who was cleaning a bookshelf.
"Of course, what is it you would like to talk about?" She stopped dusting and turned toward Joseph.
"About what you saw earlier, you won't tell my father, will you?" Joseph asked anxiously. In response, the maid shook her head and said, "Of course not, this can stay between us. But you should tell your sister about what you and her fiancé have been doing." With that, she went back to dusting. Joseph nodded. "Thank you... Me and Matthew are going to the shops. Tell my father when you see him?"
"Would you like me to get the driver?"
"No, we'll be walking. Thanks. Bye now," he said, grabbing my hand, and we headed toward the exit of the castle.
