Long ago before the lands were ripped apart and divided by savagery and war, there were no designations. No Alphas, no Betas, No Omegas. They lived their lives without worrying about heat or an Alpha's rage. Of course, that all changed when the wars started. Slowly, humanity started changing. Rapid mutations spurred on by nuclear radiation began to overtake the population. Those who hadn't been killed in battle or as a result of the bombs succumbed to such mutations.
Eventually, the humans and the kingdoms they had controlled, dissolved into six main countries. Each one followed a different protocol or governing system, they all had one thing in common. No original humans remained. They were all of the designation Alpha, Omega, or Beta.
Alphas are prone to violence, quick to anger, and are the most feared of the groups. They crave power and often seek positions of authority to get it. In addition to their violent nature, they gained a massive amount of physical strength, which was often the cause of extremely bloody fights. They are controlled primarily by their emotions and instincts. Instincts that push them to find an omega and breed. The nuclear radiation which caused the mutations also made reproduction extremely difficult. It reduced a female's fertile period to only four times a year for an Omega and only twice a year in Betas.
Omegas are naturally submissive and are prone to subservience to Alphas. Omegas are gentle in nature and bloom under the affectionate care of an Alpha. They love children and are known to protect them fiercely. They produce a sweet scent that attracts Alphas and are generally able to scent the feelings of those around them. They typically bond to one Alpha, but there have been instances of packs forming around a single Omega.
Betas make up the majority of the population. They are sensitive to the needs of both Alphas and Omegas but are not controlled by those instincts. They are not able to scent to the degree Omegas and Alphas are, but it is still heightened from the original humans. Most betas find themselves in service to both Alphas and Omegas because their scents are not as tumultuous for them and genuinely enjoy their presence.
All designations have a mating gland located on the side of their neck. When female designations are in heat or their fertile period, they secrete a sweet pheromone from the gland to entice a mate. Bonding between the designations is generally for life, but if the connection isn't reciprocated the result can be a pseudobond. A pseudobond creates mania and psychosis in Alphas, a rift between an Omega and herself, and a dissociative state for Betas.
