Keir was trying his best to keep his scent and pheromones from spiraling out of control. The little Omega nestled into his side needed him to be calm and in control. He had no idea what the King would do. The fact was that the King was delving further into insanity with each passing day. His actions becoming even more erratic than before.

The people of the village had already been subjected to his wrath and he hoped it wasn't too late for Lila's sister. He decided he would focus Devon's attention on getting them out. But somehow he had to get that herb and silence that merchant, though he had a feeling he wouldn't be quick enough to stop the merchant from spilling everything to the King.

He had toyed with the idea of slipping out while Lila slept, but just the idea sent his Alpha into a panic. Leaving her alone wasn't an option and he had scant few people he could trust with her. Perhaps if Maya came back...but that wasn't guaranteed and there must be a reason she hadn't returned yet, which bothered him even more.

He shut his eyes, willing the anxiety away. There was nothing he could do, at present, and on his own. He needed information to move forward with any plans he made. He turned to his side and gazed at the Omega sleeping beside him. His mate. He couldn't believe he had found her, the idea still seemed surreal. That she had been so far away from his own country.

He tucked a stray strand of dark hair back from her face. Her face seemed serene, despite the healing still taking place. It was so hard to hold his Alpha back from serving justice to that piece of shit. He watched her suck in more of his scent and he leaned down to her head to do the same. Soft, sweet honeysuckle filled his nose. She was everything he needed. A Queen already, but he would give her anything she asked for. If in the end, she wanted revenge, he would become her avenging angel. Anything for the beautiful Omega beside him.

He dozed with Lila for a while but then became restless and started making dinner for them. Of course, Lila was still only going to be able to eat liquids for some time, but he heated up the broth he had and prepared himself something more hearty. Lila had clutched to him while he had tried to escape the nest and the only way he had been able to leave was by removing his shirt. He glanced over at her. She had her face buried into his shirt, sniffing softly.

He smiled. Perhaps, he was becoming a bit soft-hearted, but the Omega continued to make his life so much better. If only her mate would stop causing trouble. The thought of the Alpha made him growl and he returned to preparing for dinner.

A soft knock at the door stole his attention and he gently placed the utensils on the table beside the bowls. He opened the door slightly, only offering the profile of his face to the visitor. Maya's face filled his vision.

"Maya, come in, I was just about to wake her," He said, but then zeroed in on the way she held her hand to her ribs.

"No, I don't want her to see me like this," She replied her voice pained.

He nodded and stepped outside.

"What happened?" he asked crossing his arms.

She leaned against the hallway wall for support and took a deep breath, her armor groaning with the movement.

"The King was certain that I knew where she was. I have been through worse, I'll be fine," She said and Keir rolled his eyes.

He was used to that stupid Alpha pride, had been the subject of it many times, but hearing it from another Alpha was maddening.

"How is she?"She asked, her voice cracked.

"She is...healing. I'm sure the pain is still-"

"Are you giving her the tonics, making sure the bites are cared for?" Maya snapped, her gaze drilling into him.
