Christina was starting to show. She didn't know how to keep hiding it or even forget the situation she was in. The growing bump was becoming harder to conceal with each passing day, causing Christina to feel increasingly self-conscious. She longed for a solution that would allow her to navigate through daily life without constantly worrying about her visible pregnancy. She knew Clarice was right; she needed to tell someone. She hasn't even gone to a doctor so far this pregnancy, which she knew was a bad idea, but she wanted the whole thing to disappear. Christina's fear and denial were overpowering, making it difficult for her to face the reality of her situation. She desperately wished for a magical solution that would make her pregnancy vanish, freeing her from the overwhelming emotions and uncertainty that consumed her every day. However, deep down, she knew that seeking medical help and confiding in someone she trusted were necessary steps towards finding the support and guidance she needed. But who could she tell? There were her parents, but she could see their faces. They would be disappointed in her, just like her drinking. She couldn't bear the thought of disappointing them again. There was also the baby's father, whom she hasn't really spoken to since the fateful night. She felt trapped, desperately longing for someone who would understand and offer unconditional support during this difficult time. Maybe she should start off with him; there is less chance of an emotional reaction on her end that way.
Christina had walked up to Joe when she saw him at school.
"Hey!" she started.
"Um, hey," he said back. "I haven't seen you in a while."
"Can we talk privately?"
"I guess." They walked away to a corner of the school where there was no one around to overhear. "What's up?"
"I have to tell you something that you might not like, but it needs to be said."
"Okay, weird way to start a conversation, but shoot."
"I'm pregnant." He stared at her unbelievingly.
"I'm sorry. You're what?"
"You heard me."
"What are you going to do?"
"Not sure. I've been going over my options."
"Well, you're not going to terminate it, are you?
"What if I was? It's my choice."
"That may be, but I should get a say too."
"You're not suggesting we raise the child, are you?"
"What's wrong with that?"
"It's proposturus. I can't raise a child. I'm only 16!"
"So am I..."
"Who cares? Who do you think people are going to stare at and talk about more because of their young age? Me or you? 100% me!"
"That's a little dramatic, don't you think?"
"Screw you!"
"Have you even told your parents?"
"No."
"Maybe you should do that." He walked away sternly. She watched him walk away, feeling a mix of anger and fear. Telling her parents was the last thing she wanted to do, but deep down, she knew he was right.
