This life isn't one I would've pictured for myself.
Firstly, because I didn't know vampires existed until about 6 months ago. Second, I didn't know my two closest friends were going to disappear yesterday. And third, I dont think I have the strength to do the impossible: do not consume human blood. There is only one rule in the vampire world: Don't let yourself be found out by the humans. It was similar to the rules we were given by Riley, so it's not so hard to follow, but this new Coven has different rules than my original group. More like manners. Do not consume human blood under any circumstances. Keep hidden on sunny days. Stay away from the brown-haired human girl. Don't let the hunt consume you. So many things to remember. Slipping up means certain death; not only by the Cullens, but the Volturi as well. This place is so unfamiliar, the smell of mist and wet grass constantly fills my senses to the point of overstimulation, and I can't ignore the intense burning in my throat every time she's around. And she is here a lot.
I wish I could leave. I would take off to Canada, find Fred and hunt in peace, try to come to terms with the life that was taken from me and the newfound freedom the Cullens had granted me when I offered my surrender during the battle. It wasn't my fight. It was Victoria's. It had always been Victoria's. But the Volturi would find me eventually. They'd find Fred. They'd kill us both. I'd been given 5 months to adjust to the Cullens' way of life and learn to live amongst humans, lest I be made an example of by the beautiful blonde Jane and her cloaked family. I was told by Dr. Cullen that the Volturi didn't commonly make trips so far across the world to check on one vampire, but icy cold fear gripped my heart and told me they'd kill me just to prove a point to the golden-eyed family.
I have to find a way to make this work. I have nowhere else to go, and no way to survive on my own. I'm a deer in headlights, and I have to either run across the road or stay still and let the truck hit me at full impact.
