So we start. Micayla is picked to be it. Ryan insisted that it be her, since he completed the list of dares she had made for him. Mickayla counts to 60 giving us time to get a head start that's well deserved since she probably has the best stamina of all of us thanks to dance. Ever and I decide to stick together, so that if she finds us we can split up, and she'll have to choose one or the other, enabling the other to get away, and save the other from jail. We decide to hide in a group of trees off to the edge of the park with the school behind us for an escape plan, so we don't get cornered. We sat there for 5 mins listening for the shouts of Micayla to show up. She usually plays loudly when she's it, since we've all realized she's too good at playing cat and mouse by sneaking up on us. Plus last time sh e played that way she just about gave Arlin a heart attack.
2 more minutes pass and there's nothing. Ever taps me on the shoulder and I turn around expecting her to tell me she needs to use the bathroom again. I turned around lecturing that she shouldn't have drank that giant starbuck drink before we got here. But that's not what she was going to say. She shushes me and points behind her shoulder at the abandoned school with a nervous look on her face.
I'm confused and mouth to her "What?" she mouths back
"I think there's someone watching us."
I'm even more confused and ask "Ryan?" she shakes her head and whispers
"Stranger."
At that I look behind her scanning the wall of the school. I don't see anything out of the blue with my sweep, and turn back to her saying that she's just paranoid, and that there's no one there. She gives me her stubborn look and says her eyes are not playing tricks on her, and that there is definitely someone watching us.
"In the shadows" she hisses. So I turn again. This time letting my eyes thoroughly scan the school looking closely at all the shadowy spots. It's not until I near the end of the wall, where the corner turns to start the other wall, that I notice something. A little red flicker is shining in the dark. It's as if the last ember in a dying fire is taking its last breath before suffocating itself out. To my surprise it really is! As my eyes adjust to the dark shadow a tall black figure standing in the shadows appears, long grimy fingers hold a cigar bud between their teeth. As my vision travels up I see big black eyes stare at me. The hairs on the back of my neck prickle and a chill slides down my back swirling forward settling in my stomach like an ice cube slipped in a drink. It's as if this "person" isn't really a person. They're trying to look so I can tell, but the just too slim body, and the slightly bent way they stand throws you off. Not to mention its eyes are large, and dark swirling with nothing but hollow empty darkness. Whoever that is, or whatever it is, is not good. Everything in me is screaming to run away or scream for help, but no. If they think I've seen them, something might happen. I slowly turn back to Ever, relaxing my shoulders "How about we find a better spot. Seems as if we've picked too good a spot, Micayla may never find us. We don't want to be forgotten, right?" I say in a tone just a little louder than usual that way maybe the person behind us will hear and leave us alone. Ever picks up on my ques and we get out of there a little quicker than what might be considered regular speed. Taking one last glance back at the spot just to make sure he hasn't followed, but he's gone.
