PRESENT DAY...
" I can't do it anymore," I said.
It took me all the courage I had to get these words out of my mouth. I could see the hurt in his eyes as he processed my words, and a heavy silence hung between us. It was a painful realization that our love had changed, and I couldn't help but wonder if we would ever find our way back to each other. "But..." he muttered with tears in his eyes. I knew he wanted to ask why but couldn't because he knew why. I reached out to hold his trembling hand, feeling the weight of our shared history. The flames of our passion that once burned so fiercely had flickered out, leaving behind ashes of disappointment and resentment. With a heavy heart, I gently whispered, "Sometimes love just isn't enough.". As we stood there, the weight of our history together seemed to press down on us. The memories of our laughter, our shared dreams, and the countless nights spent in each other's arms now felt like distant echoes. We had both changed, and the person standing before me was no longer the one I had fallen in love with. It was a heartbreaking truth, but perhaps it was time for us to let go.
It was a heartbreaking sight to see him break down in tears. I couldn't help but feel the pain in my chest, but my mind kept going back to the difficult decision I had made. I thought about all the events that led to this moment, and it was the toughest choice I had ever made. But it was at that moment that I realized the depth of my love for him. My heart shattered into a million pieces, all for the sake of love. I knew at that moment that I loved him to death.
TEN MONTHS EARLIER...
As I locked eyes with Cameron, my heart skipped a beat. His radiant smile drew me in, and the glint in his brown eyes shone brightly in the sun's rays that streamed through the window. We were both captivated by each other's gaze and for a moment, time stood still. Suddenly, a loud thud broke the spell, and we rushed to Lisa's room to find her lying on the floor. Cameron and I sprang into action, helping her back onto her bed. Despite the shock, Lisa's sense of humor prevailed, and she asked if she was still alive. We all chuckled, but I couldn't help but notice how Cameron's smile illuminated the room. It was a truly beautiful sight. After making sure Lisa was okay, I handed her a glass of water, and she hugged me tightly, apologizing for her state.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this. I know I'm a mess right now," she said with a hint of embarrassment. I found it very funny considering how I always felt that Lisa was quite responsible but seeing her like this made me think that my life is also about to change in this new place.
"I'll get you hangover soup," Cameron said, walking towards the door.
"Do you even know how to make one?" I asked.
"Oh, I know a lot of things, Maeve."
He gave me one of those stares and went to the kitchen.
" Looks like someone has bonded," Lisa said teasingly.
" Fuck that, I want to ask you a lot of questions right now."
"I'm all ears," she said, laying her head on the pillow.
"Starting with, who the hell is he, and why didn't I know about him?
"He is Cameron, which you know, of course. He is my roommate, and I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier because I thought then you wouldn't come to live with me and trust me, Maeve, I didn't want to lose this chance of living with my childhood friend."
"I'm not sure if I can live with him under this roof, Lisa. Can you ask him to move out? I know it's not well, but what can I do now? He doesn't have to go immediately.
" I can't, Maeve; this is his house. "
" His house? What the hell Lisa "
" I know it's a shocker for you, but it's hard to find such a good apartment near our office. He also works at the same office as ours. I got an apartment down the street when I first came here, but in one week I found out why that apartment was so cheap. It had a lot of issues. I told the owner that I wanted my money back and wanted to move out. The owner was an asshole. He didn't return my money and also rented the house to some other guy. I was trying to find another apartment, but it was harder than I thought. I was so frustrated with everything that I started sobbing. Cameron heard me over the phone with my friend and told me that I could live in his apartment until I found some other place. I knew him from our training days, and he has always been a nice guy. I didn't have any other option, and this house is way more than good for me. I pay Cameron rent every month, which is even less than what I was ready to pay for that greasy apartment. He is like a brother to me. He says he doesn't have any sisters, and he thinks of me as his sister."
"Also, this house is too big for me to live in all alone." I looked behind me as soon as his words hit my ear. Cameron was standing at the end of the bed with the bowl of soup in his hands. for some reason, He looked even more beautiful now.
