Sirens blared as the flashing blue lights flickered through my closed living room curtains. My breath caught in my throat, I was frozen to the couch. A few seconds passed before the blue flashing lights stopped. They'd gone. Phew. Just one more day, I kept telling myself. One more day and I get a fresh new start. Not exactly what I wanted, but it's the only option I had.

This last week has been gruelling. It's been endless tears from my mother, and my father trying to keep it all together. I never asked for this. I was clueless until it was too late.

A knock sounded at my door bringing me back to reality. Slowly peeling myself away from the couch, I picked up the pepper spray off the living room table before heading towards my front door and peering through the peep hole. Officer Bailey was stood there holding his hat in his hands. Unlocking my door and removing the chain, I pulled the door back.

"Is there a problem Officer Bailey?" My eyes darted left to right and over his shoulder seeing all the undercover police cars in their positions.

Officer Bailey was in his mid-fifties. For an older fella, he was an handsome man. Warm, friendly and very fatherly like. "Yes, yes. Everything is fine. I just wanted to check in on you to make sure you was alright. I know you get anxious when you hear the sirens." He laughed softly, placing his hat back upon his head. "Just thought I'd let you know that there is nothing to worry about, you're still safe." He looked down the street, where I guessed the blue flashing lights went, and shook his head before looking back at me. "Some kid on a stolen Vespa is giving one of our men a wild goose chase."

I'm not going to lie, I sighed in relief and laughed a little. "Oh, that's good." Officer Bailey raised his brow. "I didn't mean it like that, I mean..."

"I know, Scarlett." He smiled warmly. "Anyway, you best get some sleep. Big day for you tomorrow."

My smile was small. I didn't want to move away. "Yeah, I guess." Slightly shrugging my shoulders, I moved my long, blonde locks away from my shoulders to fall down my back. "Goodnight, Officer Bailey."

Locking everything back up, I turned off all the downstairs lights besides the small lamp next to the front door and took myself up to my bedroom where I placed the pepper spray on my bed side table before I threw myself onto my bed. Reaching over for my phone, I pressed the button on the side which lit up my screen to see the family Christmas photo as my screensaver.

I cried myself to sleep.

Why did my life have to fuck up?
