A/N: I still can't look at my art for these chapters without cringing 😭 there's a lot of skips in this chapter because I wanted to show how uncomfortable Aspen is with her new life as a ninja but it just came out really awkward. Anyway I hope you all enjoy :))
Aspen woke up early, unintentionally. She had realized she had awakened first, and to think the ninja were all about the high life. Aspen dusted herself off and picked up her sleeping corner, cleaning and folding everything. She then went below deck and found a broom and dust pan. She hadn't seen the time, but she started doing a few chores. For ninja, they got pretty messy. Who could blame them? When you're saving a city and going from place to place constantly, when do you have time to clean up? Actually, it had been weeks since the ghosts, right? Yeah, lazy.
Again, Aspen hadn't noticed the time but she managed to sweep all of the deck and only the parts she managed to reach below deck. She had also washed dishes and started making breakfast. The ninja woke up around that time, groggily passing through the hall.
"What's that smell?" She heard Jay's voice then, what she guessed was him, sniffing the air.
"It smells so good!" Cole agreed, also sniffing the air.
All of them ran into the kitchen where she was, basically dogs awaiting a treat. She was still cooking the final touches for breakfast when they stopped somewhere behind her.
"Aspen?!" They yelped together in confusion. The ninja looked practically the same from the night before, yet Aspen didn't. Her hair was slightly messed up and you could see dirt in some places of her clothes. She didn't look hideous or unrecognizable, the ninja just weren't expecting her to make breakfast.
"You made breakfast?" Zane asked, typically he made breakfast. The ninja often ate good when Zane cooked, his food always smelled of heaven's gates. Aspens food smelled even better. At least, it did since no one had to help.
"Yeah, I've been up for a while and I figured I'd get hungry soon. Might as well make breakfast for everyone too." Aspen said, finishing the last of the hash browns.
They all followed her to the table, which was already set. Plates for everyone with a small bowl of rice. In the middle, eggs, steamed buns, and hash browns. It wasn't a big breakfast but Aspen did make a lot of everything. The ninja seemed to have stars in their eyes. They all sat down in their seats while Aspen sat next to Kai, considering she only knew him. The seat next to her was empty, she counted everyone at the table and realized Master Wu was missing. Yet that extra seat meant they placed it prior to the morning. She counted the seats the day before, that time there were seven chairs, now there are eight. It warmed Aspen's heart knowing they added an extra chair for her.
"Your cooking is amazing!" Kai told her, finishing two steamed buns. Everyone nodded, their mouths too full to speak. She blushed at the compliment, compliments usually made her blush. Although she received them often as a child, she never thought they were quite genuine. But seeing the ninja devour the food she made, it seemed so genuine it made Aspen feel special.
