New years

"Are you finished getting ready, babe?" Alex calls from the bathroom. "Almost," answers Henry trying to rush. It's New Year's Eve and Alex and him are staying in the White House for the weekend for the annual White House Trio New Year's party. This is Henry's and Alex's 2nd new years in the White House together. The first being 5 years before, the new years that Henry kissed Alex for the first time.

Alex originally wanted to host the party in New York like the past few years but Henry persuaded him and the girls to host it in the White House because this would be the last new years in the White House with Ellen's 2nd term coming to an end. Thankfully Alex didn't think of any other reason why Henry wanted to spend new years at the White House.

Henry finally finished putting on his shoes walks toward Alex who is standing impatiently in front of the door. "Finally, I'm getting old over here," Alex complains. Henry just rolls his eyes and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

The first hour of the party is filled with saying "hello's" and "How are you's" to all the guests. After Alex and Henry make their rounds Henry offers to grab them both a drink. He stalks toward the bar where he see's Pez standing talking to June. " Hello, you two enjoying
the party?" Henry says as he grabs a menu from the table. "Of course, and you?" Pez reply's. Henry orders two glasses of whisky and then answers Pez, "Having fun but nervous for later." "Everything will be fine, I'm sure of it" June says giving Henry a reassuring smile. Henry answering with a unsure smile and walks away with their whiskeys in hand.

The real reason why Henry wanted the New Year's party to be in the White House and why he's so on edge is because he is planning on proposing to Alex at midnight in the same spot where they shared their first kiss. Alex and Henry have been together for about 5 years now and Henry knows that they both want to spend the rest of their lives together but Henry is still nervous.

Henry walks to Alex where he finds him talking to his dad, Oscar. He says hello and hands Alex his drink. "Thanks, sweetheart," Alex say simultaneously putting his arm around Henry's waist pulling him closer. They talk and dance glued to each other by the hip throughout the whole night. Finally when it's almost midnight Henry leads a drunken Alex away from the party and towards the White House garden.

"Where are we going?" Alex slurs. Henry should have watched how much Alex was drinking but he was to focused on worrying about proposing and drinking himself. "You'll see" Henry says covering Alex's eyes with his hands. When they finally are under the tree that they stood under years before he removes his hands and Alex looks around them to see flower petals and candles surrounding them. After a few seconds Alex loos back at Henry and he smiles a shy grin. "Hen, I don't know what to say-" Henry takes a step closer and starts reciting his speech he worked on for hours trying to perfect it.

"Alex, I can hardly believe I'm standing in front of you tonight. It feels like just yesterday we were sneaking around hiding our relationship from the world" Henry continues "We have been through so much together and every step of the way, I've fallen more and more in love with you. I still remember the first time I saw you in Rio, you were so beautiful and confident and so... unattainable." Tears now forming in Alex's eyes and he smiles listening to Henry's words. "We've made history, Alex. We've shown the world that that two people from opposite sides of the Atlantic can find each other and I want you to know that I am more committed to you than ever. I will always be here for you, through the good times and the bad. I will always be your partner, your confidant, your biggest fan. I will always love you, Alex Claremont-Diaz, more than words can say" Henry kneels down Pulls out a box from his pocket. He sees Alex eyes widen and tear up even more. "With all that being said, will you marry me?"

"Yes, yes a millions times yes," Alex cries as he falls into Henry's arms. Henry slides the silver ring into Alex's ring finger and kissed him like the world is about to end. In the distance they hear cheering and realize it's probably midnight. Against his lips Alex whispers, "I love you so fucking much."

After many kisses, hugs and tears the couple decide to go back to their room and enjoy the rest of the night in each others arms. Not worrying about anyone or anything else because they had each other and that was more than enough.
