Ugh why should I be here? Arcanestar thought as she sat on top of a mountain peak, she could see the Academy. It was becoming as dark as shadows as the sun sank into the distance. She enjoyed the quiet dark nights, where she could stare up at the stars. She shifted their wings, the starry scales sparkled then dimmed away, as others shined in spots under her wings. She remembered the rumors and whispers, dragons who noticed them would say she was an animus, or animus touched. She knew she was no animus, she tried, so that was the only explanation, she was magicked. She also knew she didn't have any special Nightwing powers. This is stupid, I could be exploring the other continent but instead I'm stuck here at this dumb school and with even dumber dragons. She scratched her claws on the rock, and looked over at Agate Mountain. The place where a nightmare covered in scales and filled with magic arose from. She didn't know her parents, she believed they tossed her out because of her little show under her wings. The stars faded away, darkness covered where they once were. The sun was gone, only a small light was still shining, and soon it'll be gone. "Hey, you alright?" Said a voice. Great, now what? Arcanestar looked behind her and saw a dragon walking up to her, and sat down next to her. It was Sunny, one of the Dragonets of Destiny. She was the Sandwing in the prophecy, or sort of, she had gold scales instead of pale yellowish or off whites, green eyes, and no tail barb. She was nicer to Arcanestar than anyone else she met, so were the other 3 heroes at the school, Glory was at the rainforest ruling over the Rainwings and the Nightwings. "I'm fine, just looking at the sky," she replied, speaking half truthfully. "Well, it is beautiful. Reminds me of the time when the War of Sandwing Succession ended," Sunny said. Arcanestar simply nodded. Some time passed, and Sunny spoke again, "Nervous about meeting dragons? I heard you were alone for a long time." "Nervous? I'm not nervous, besides, why would I want to meet new dragons?" Arcanestar said. "So you can make friends, and get to understand-" "No one will understand me, and I don't need friends. No one even knows my name." Sunny looked her in the eye, "That's because you choose to not let others know your name, and you don't know what is possible if you work with other dragons." I keep my name hidden cause I don't have snails for brains. "I just don't think I should be here, look at me!" Arcanestar lifted up her wings as the stars began to glitter again. Sunny looked at her, and sighed, "Look at me, I'm not your typical looking dragon, I'm a hybrid. And other dragons here are different, Anemone and Turtle were animus dragons who came here," she went quiet. Were once animus, they lost it cause some Sandwing didn't like it and made it disappear for a while. Arcanestar looked back at the sky, hoping to get out of this conversation. Sunny seemed to get the hint and began to walk away, "Do you know which winglet you're in?" "Yeah yeah the Jade one whatever," Arcanestar said. Sunny flew back to the school, Arcanestar sat there in silence a little longer, but the silence felt... odd for once. Deep in her bones there was something not right, as if something that shouldn't be here fell into the wrong talons. The rock cooled off finally, and the dragon crept towards it. The hundreds of dragon skull tattoos that covered him stared out blankly, his tail slid on the sand like a snake, as the barb rattled slightly. He picked up a piece, and held it close to his face to study it. "Hmmm," he said. An odd power surged through him, and he smiled wickedly.
