Before I went out for the day and hung out with the band, I went to my laptop and transferred money into my bank account when suddenly my mom called me on messenger.
I answered the call on my laptop and opened my camera. "Hey mom! How are you doing?" I asked, happy to see my mom calling me.
"Hi inday, (Filipino nickname for little girls) we're doing great here, thank you for the money you sent us. We finally got the lodging house finished thanks to you." My mom responded.
"No problem ma, I'm happy that I was able to help you. By the way, where's papa and my brother and sister?" I asked.
"Your dad is over here watching TV, while your siblings didn't wanna really see you since they were tired from taking care of the shop." She replied as she turned the camera around to reveal dad sitting on a chair, while watching the news.
It did kinda hurt me that my siblings didn't wanna see me yet but I understood that they were tired so I just let it pass, I guess.
Remembering the past few events that happened while I couldn't talk to her for a while, I got excited about telling my mom about what happened.
"By the way ma, I got into a cool band and I'm one of the guitarists!" I told her, grinning from ear to ear.
She frowned as I started talking, "You're in one of those screaming bands that makes fake music?" She scowled.
My smile dropped as she mentioned "fake music", Im gonna be yelled at again. "What the hell are you thinking!" She yelled.
This had been going on for almost three years now, and I had enough of her hating on the idea of me joining a band and learning the guitar.
"Ma, this has always been my dream!" I snapped, which surprised my mom. "Don't talk back to me! Think about what your life would be like if you joined a band, you'll become a drug addict!" She yelled, I got pissed off from her beliefs.
"I don't know where you got that idea from but this is my life I'm living in and I've already thought about it before I agreed! I promised myself that I would never do that and I know that my band mates will stop and prevent me from doing it!" I yelled into the screen.
"If you don't leave that band and stop playing the electric guitar, I swear I will-" "I'M SICK AND TIRED OF LISTENING TO YOU, I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION FOR FOUR YEARS BECAUSE OF YOU. YOU FORCED ME TO FOCUS ON EDUCATION WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIVING MY CHILDHOOD, AND TRAUMATIZED ME MORE THAN ENOUGH THAT I EVEN THOUGHT OF KILLING MYSELF WHEN I WAS NINE. BUT YOU MADE IT WORSE BY SENDING ME TO LIVE WITH MY ABUSIVE AUNT IN THE US. I'VE BEEN STRUGGLING TO LIVE EACH DAY, TRYING TO MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS. I WANT TO LIVE MY OWN LIFE AND ENJOY MA!" My breathing hitched as tears began to form in my eyes.
I sobbed as I struggled to breathe, I squeezed my hand on my shirt. I felt like I couldn't breathe as my mom called my name, asking if I was okay.
I looked over to the door as it opened with Jim sticking out his head checking if I was okay. Once he realized that I was having a panic attack, he ran over and sat beside me.
He wrapped his arms around me, trying to calm me down. "Hey it's okay, it's okay.." He said as he started patting my head.
He shushed me softly, in an attempt to calm me down. I sobbed into his chest while trying to steady my breathing. After what seemed like 20-30 mins, I calmed down and rested in his arms.
Shawn then entered the room. "Holy shit, what happened?" He asked, slowly walking over to me.
"She was having a panic attack, she's okay now though." Jim answered, Shawn nodded his head while looking over to the laptop that was open.
Shawn waved his hand when he noticed that he was in camera range. "I'll take her to the living room with the others." Shawn spoke.
Jim gestured for me to follow Shawn to which I agreed and stood up and Shawn offered to give me a piggy back ride.
I smiled as I got on top of shawn and he carried me out the room.
JIM'S POV
"You must be Melody's mom right?" I asked, "Yes I am." She said plainly, I sighed while adjusting the position of the laptop so I'll be facing the camera.
"May I ask what happened?" I asked, I don't really get into other people's business but if it made Melody have a panic attack like that.
"Well um, we were arguing about her joining a band. Let me guess, you're her band mate?" She asked.
"Yes ma'am, and why were the both of you arguing about it? Is something wrong about her joining one?" I started.
"Well yes- wait why am I even answering your questions. Anyways stay away from my daughter!" She yelled.
"Ma'am-" "I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'LL DO TO HER SO STAY AWAY! I WONT LET YOU INFLUENCE MY DAUGHTER INTO DOING DRUGS!" She interrupted.
"Look ma'am, I know that you don't trust us but please. Please trust us in taking care of your daughter, I can guarantee that we won't ever do things like that to her. I think of her like a daughter to me, I bet the others also think of her like a family member too. I assure you that we won't influence your daughter into doing that stuff. Also, please let your daughter join our band. Corey, our vocalist who met her first, has been talking to us about how much she wanted to join a band. Life is short, so let your daughter live hers to the fullest." I explained, I relaxed as I noticed her calm down in defeat.
"Fine, but if I find out that you've been doing awful things to her. We will find you and report you to the police." She said.
"Alright ma'am." I spoke before she ended the call.
