I am Sage ,16. I was born in the streets of Chicago on April 16,,to the most drugged out, disabled family on earth. I am an only child. Well atleast I believe that. All my life I was abused, neglected, and just plain unloved. But my parents tell me that there's no way that will ever change. They constantly tell me that I will die alone and unnoticed by people. But I am destined to change their perspective of me,and my life.

"Okay if don't want me here let me know. Stop sugar coating shit and just let it out. Damn!!!!" I yelled as I was being disrespected by my parents

"We don't want you here because all you do is take up space with your disrespectful ass!!" My "mom" said as she slapped me.

After that all I charged at her and repeatedly punched and kicked her. Her husband came over the situation and started beating my ass like I was a nigga on the street. I was being over powerd by the two, kicked in the stomach, punched, spit on. You name it. All I could think of was. Why.?? Why me. After that I just laid there and let the pain run through my body, then I blanked out........

When I came to light I was alone at a bus stop in the rain. I sat up and looked at my body I had bruises and cuts every where. I was disgusted at the site. As I looked around at my surroundings I seen a building that read "Teen Rescue Center " I thought long and hard about getting up and walking over there but then I eventually got up and walked my sore body over to the place.

"Hi welcome t......OMG come with me sweetie" The lady said in a panic

We walked down along hall that had a lot of rooms. It smelled of mothballs. When we came to a stop I noticed we were standing in front of a door labeled "Clinic " She walked me in and sat me on a Med bed and nursed my wounds. She did everything a mother should be doing. I just sat there and watched her as I winced at her every touch. She was talking but I wasn't really listening. Last thing I remember saying to her was "Thank you. " and then I drifted off.

"She just walked in here last night. All brusied up." A soft voice spoke

"Well we don't have enough room." Another voice shot back

After that I opened my eyes and sat up.

"Its okay I'll just leave." I said catching the two off guard

"No, were would you go."The lady from last night said

"I don't know I'll find a place. " I said standing

The two females looked at each other and then the lady from last night came over to me.

"No, you can't just go anywhere. You can come live with me. " She said

" Nawh. I'm trash you don't want me in your house. " I replied as I went to grab the door handle.

"No your not. Just come live with me until you get back on your feet." I just looked at her and thought. What if she can better me?. Better my life.

She walked out the room a nd I followed. She grabbed a bag from behind a desk. She pressed a few buttons on a computer then turned to a office next to the desk.

"Ill be back I'm gonna go take her to my house Carrie. " She said as we walked out of the big buliding.

We got into a red Camry and drove off in silence. Until we reached our destination. Her home was beautiful, she had another car in the drive way,so I thought she had a husband or sum. She motioned for me tl get out the car, I did and we walked up a gravel stone stair way that led to the front door.

"Well this is my home. I live alone so it would just be me and you." She said walking into the kitchen.

"Sit,sit. We haven't properly introduceed ourselves. " She said handing me a bottled water. I tool the water and just looked at her waiting for her to speak.

"Well my name is Mrs. Beverley, I am a Widow. I h a very 2 kids and I live here alone, now. Can you tell me about you?" She said drinking her water.

"My name is Sage. I'm 16, I was born here in Chicago." I spoke as if I was embarrassed to tell her who I was and why I was here. We continued to talk, well she did most of the talking. She showed me the room that I would be sleeping in. It was beyond beautiful. Something I never had. I told her thanks and laid down on the king size bed.

It was late in the afternoon and I was tired so I just closed my eyes and drifted off. Trying to see myself in a better place.
