*I don't know Eld's gf/fiancé's name or even if that's who she is.
Emily was trying to find a chore that needed to be done, or a errand to be ran. The anxiety was making her restless. She always worried for Eld every time he went out beyond the walls. But this time felt different, something didn't feel right.
She looked at the ring on her finger. It wasn't much but it was enough for her.
She remembered the first time she met Eld. He was just a young cadet in the training corps. Short blonde hair, not facial hair.
They had both been sixteen.
Emily was working in her fathers shop when she noticed some commotion outside of her fathers shop.
He another cadet, who she let was introduced to as Gunther, were in some sort of disagreement with two other cadets.
"The Survey Corps is just a waste of resources. There's nothing out there!"
"You don't know that, none of us do, but if we can retake Shiganshina the more land we gain the better off we will be" Eld argued back.
"That commander of their's is a nut case" the other cadet said. "Or just a devil, he doesn't care how many people die as long as he 'sees what's out there' I got the answer for him...absolutely nothing!"
"It's just as waste" the other cadet muttered.
"If you want to talk waste then look no further than the MPs and the royal family, what exactly do they do for the people again?"
"They protect the towns and the walls"
"That's the Garrison dumba**, the MPs don't so any more but sift safely in the capital living an easy life...if you saw a real Titan in person you would piss yourself on the spot" Eld fired back.
"Are you calling me a coward!!?!?"
"Considering your plan of joining the MPs....yeah"
The enraged cadet then swung at Eld catching him right under his right eye.
Before she knew it the four boy were in a brawl, crashing into the outside newspaper stand.
Emily had rushed outside telling the boys to stop before her father came, but before that could happen. Two Garrison soldiers showed up and broke up the fight.
"Not a good look for any of you wanting to make the top 10. We won't tell Shadis, but it will cost ya" said one of Garrison members with a smirk.
The boys grumbled reaching into their pockets.
The other two cadets stalked off, and Gunther and Eld stayed behind to help tidy up the newspaper stand.
Emily shyly peered out from the door, "um you know you're bleeding?"
Both of the reached up touch their heads. Then their faces. Eld's hand came away with blood.
"Come on I have a first aid kit" she said, beckoning Eld to come inside.
She led Eld to the back office and pulled out a first aid kit. Pouring some antiseptic onto a clean cloth.
"This is gonna sting a bit" she said dabbing the disinfectant onto the cut on his cheek.
He flinch slightly, but Emily almost giggled at the tough face he was trying to make.
"So what's your name?" She asked.
"Eld Ginn, I'm in the cadet corps...you?"
"I'm Emily Lavelle, thought about joining after Wall Maria fell."
"So what stopped you?"
"Well after my mother died, I'm all my father has left and he needs help with the store so" she said as she opened up a bandage.
"That's very kind of you" he said softly.
Emily was shocked at his response. Based on the argument outside she was expecting another lecture.
"Based on the scuffle outside, I take it you are joining the Scouts?"
"It's been my plan since the Wall fell when they lowered the age to enlist."
Emily placed the bandage onto his cheek. "Well, I don't think the scouts are a waste. I think it's pretty brave to go outside the walls. I've heard stories from Shiganshina refugees, gives me nightmares"
Eld's face went a bit pink.
"There good as new, minus the incoming black eye" Emily said.
Eld just kept looking at her.
"What?"
"You're just really...pretty" Eld said.
Now it was time for Emily to blush.
Before she could respond Gunther called out for Eld.
"Well I'll see ya around Emily" Eld said with warm smile.
Since that day anytime Eld had time off he would come see her at the shop. Those visits eventually turned into beautiful moments they would spend walking around Trost, sitting by the lake, star gazing.
Emily closed here eyes enjoying reliving these precious moments. She had stayed true to her nature, she thought it was admirable ford Eld to join the Scouts.
But the first time he returned from beyond the wall, he was different. He didn't talk much about it and she didn't push it.
All he said was a lot of people died.
So each expedition she got more and more anxious, especially after they got engaged. Eld had tried to ease her worries but explained that this time as different. The corps had a "secret weapon" and would be more protected.
Still something just didn't feel right. Emily picked up a broom and began to sweep an already spotless floor.
