Hyera

It's been three weeks. I've been helping the family business in New York shortly after coming back from Vegas.

It's true that I'm quite the trouble maker, but when it comes to my father's business I always know when and how to stop acting like a spoiled brat. He raised me well and that's one of the things I'm thankful for.

"Daddy!" An innocent smile crept up to my face as I came running into my father's arms.

"Hello, doll." It's only been a few months since I last saw him and it's undeniably obvious that his condition is getting worse.

It seems like he noticed my concern giving he tried to avoid my eyes by staring straight ahead. "Ahem. How have you been doll?" he asks as we walk towards the resto's entrance.

"I've been doing good. Same as ever." I smile. I can't even count how many times I've said the exact same answer to his exact same question everytime we meet.

The pearl-like colored walls matched perfectly with the restaurant's royal gold theme. Exactly five chandeliers hangs in each room; with the center one the biggest and most fanciest looking among the others. Servants lined up to guide the now old famous chef to his table as his seemingly obedient daughter follows him from behind.

"Have you done what I asked?" Good old dad speaks, glancing at me.

"Yes, I've taken care of him days ago. You don't know how much I've been meaning to fire that old bastard ever since he almost ruined our name by spreading fake lies and blackmailing us with an unbelievable amount of money. The asshole was already making enough to buy himself a lambo but still had the audacity to talk shit." I rant, almost too late to notice that I've already cut through my steak and still kept going.

At least dad seems to find it amusing cause he's laughing his food off of his mouth. His moment lasted like forever but it really was just less than a minute before returning to his back old self.

"By the way, your 2nd cousin is engaged. They're expecting you to attend the wedding in greece."

I hum is response "Sure, I'll see to it."

oh boy, I know where this is going

"Have you found yourself a boyfriend?" Dad asks the same question he's been asking since the day I turned 18.

"Nope. Why?"

"Doll, I'm worried. Don't you want to settle down someday?"

"Daddy, I like the freedom I have now. I make a decent amount of money by working in your company. I'm not planning on being tied down to commitment." I retort.

"I know, I'm sorry doll. It's just that the media has been more aggressive on probing your private life. Do I need to worry about something?" he asks, clearly concerned about his only daughter.

The question makes me freeze and the night at the casino flashes in my thoughts. I shrug it off, it's not like something is gonna happen just because of a one night stand so I won't bother telling.

"Nope. Don't you trust me dad?"

He shakes his head and looks at me with the same pity in his eyes "I trust you more than anything in this world. Just...always take care of yourself, okay?"

I nod and smile at him. My dad, my best friend, the only one I know I can rely on in the world.
