There was a grumbling that could be heard for miles. It was loud and fierce, then silence fell upon the night.
Beth went downstairs to go make her morning coffee and watch the early morning news. She sleepily wobbled down the stairs to the coffee machine, made her coffee, and went to go lie down on the couch. She turned on the local news and couldn't find anything about the weather. "Ugh, what is all this nonsense about a sound that these people heard," she thought to herself.
She hadn't heard anything other than her neighbor's snoring. The news went on about how dangerous this situation could be if the sound got any louder. Then with a push of a button, Jenny her roommate turned off the tv.
"It's all fake news, and you know it," she said as she sat next to Beth.
"I know that Jenny but the videos they showed made it look and sound real."
"well if you're that worried about it then how about we go check it out ourselves" Jenny responded
"Sounds great!" Beth exclaimed
They got a small bag to stay there for the night, or at least until they could either confirm or deny if the sound existed.
After about 30 minutes of driving, they finally made it to the hotel where most of the videos were from. It was right next to a dark and creepy forest, which is where most claimed to hear the sound coming from. It didn't help at all that this place felt abandoned no one was there except them, and all the lights were out.
"This place really gives me the creeps," said Beth.
" oh you'll get over it once you've been here long enough," echoed a mysterious voice from behind them causing both Jenny and Beth to shiver in fear, but when they turned around it was some random old man that looked as if he could have a heart attack at any moment.
" Who are you?"Jenny asked
"There's no need for you to know. All you need to know is that I own this place." grumbled the old man.
"Do these sounds that people are talking about exist?" Beth asked without thinking.
"IS THAT ALL YOU CAME HERE FOR" yelled the old man furiously.
For a good few minutes everyone sat in silence. Until the old man just gave them their room keys and left. As they walked to their room they heard an earsplitting sound and before they could even take another step everything went black.
a while later Beth woke up in the woods with Jenny still passed out next to her.
"Jenny wake up we got moved deep into th-" Before Beth could finish she got interrupted by the same noise from before she passed out. But this time quieter. It woke Jenny up and together they walked towards the sound. Once they knew they made it to the thing making the sound. They realized that it was a hollowed-out tree.
Being that Jenny wasn't the smartest person Beth knew, Jenny decided to walk in then she disappeared and so did Beth.
Once she met up with Jenny again everything was different.
Why is everything colorful now? Just a few seconds ago everything was dark and gloomy." Beth asked, but before Jenny could speak a man came up to them and urged them to follow him.
After what felt like hours of walking they finally stopped. It was a dark alleyway and felt new even though the buildings looked like the ones you would see at one of those old villages.
Once the man knew they were alone he started asking talking.
"How did you get here?" he asked
"And why should I tell you?" beth asked
"Because I've been stuck here for years after going through a random tree," he said
Jenny and Beth looked at each other questioningly.
"Fine, we got here the same way as you, but all we want to know is how to get out of this place," Beth said
He looked at them and said "You'll have to find the tree you came in through." they all looked at each other bleakly.
"There's no way we'll find our tree." but right as Jenny said that we caught sight of the forest by the hotel. And while running toward it Beth heard screeching behind them.
They were being chased by the old man from the hotel! They all ran and hopped into the tree. Then once they got back to normal life vowed to never again go exploring fake news.
