So this is kind of different. I'm going to write the first chapter/prologue/etc. and you can finish the story! Some Plot twists I thought of: her parents left her on purpose, her parents lied about The Flooding, it was all a dream, so on and so forth. Anyways, comment any questions here and enjoy.

Aree lived on a row boat. In the middle of a vast, never ending body of water. She'd lived on the rowboat ever since her twelfth birthday. Ever since The Flooding. The now twelve-year-old Aree slung her pink and orange checkered backpack over her shoulder. She'd picked it out at the beginning of the year after seeing the pretty butterflies on it too. That was when she was eleven. Now, on her birthday, she was twelve and very proud of it.
After shoving the class door open and yelling a hurried goodbye to her friends, she ran to the bus. The five-minute bus drive couldn't have felt longer to her. Soon, the bus was pulling up to her street's bus stop. She giddily hopped out and ran to her home on the beach.
She flung the door open with a grin and shouted, "I'm home!"
"Aree!" She'd expected her mother to sound excited or proud, but instead she sounded relieved and stressed.
Before she could ask what was going on, her mother shoved a large bag into her arms and ordered her to go outside to her father.
Aree hustled out the door after replacing her pretty school bag with the bulky maroon one. Down next to the water stood her father and her little sister. She was seven and a thorn in Aree's side.
Her father turned towards his daughter with an equally pinched face as her mother. "Aree, you have the bag?" After she nodded he instructed, "Hop into the rowboat. Now."
She did as her father instructed, eyes round. Her father hopped into another rowboat with her sister, Mari. Not long after, Aree's mom came running down the beach and hopped in her own separate boat.
The family of four paddled out into the water, and the next morning, they could see nothing but the blue. The world had flooded.
When Aree was thirteen, she woke up one morning to see her parents and sister gone.
"Mom? Dad?" Her voice grew continuously more strained. "Mari?" They were nowhere. She couldn't see them anywhere in the vast water. Either they had drifter very very far, or...
Aree shook her head. She didn't like thinking about the past. It made her doubt things, and that led to mistakes. Mistakes let to the unknown.
It had been four years since the disappearance of her family, she thought. Even while out on the water, they had looked for land. That had been their goal, and so it was hers too.
She tied her blonde hair up into a knot and ripped open a small plastic package. It was labeled "strawberry parfait", as the goo tasted. After slurping down her breakfast and taking a long sip from her water, she set off again. Aree paddled toward the sun, as she always did. She figured that going the same direction would eventually lead her to land, if there was any.
~*~
She scratched another mark into her paddle. Six years in total. Five since her family seemed to poof into thin air.
~*~
Seven years since the flooding. She'd been alone for six years now.
~*~
How many was it now? Eight? Aree felt tears sting the back of her eyes. She missed the solid feeling of land beneath her feet, the joy of running, the warmth of having other people around. Most of all she missed her family. And her pet fish that she'd left at home when the Flooding happened.
She pulled her hair into a ponytail. She had recently cut it to shoulder length. Wearily, she picked up the paddles again, muscles twinging slightly after years of unrelenting work. How glad she was that at least she had a large towel to cover her as she rowed, for her skin would have been in immense pain.
Aree had been rowing for about three hours, and she decided to stop for a quick rest in the near future.
Caaaaaaw!
She jerked her head up, bewildered, to see the shape of something eerily familiar. Something she hadn't seen for eight years. A bird - a seagull more specifically.
Wait...
If there's a bird, there might be land.
She rowed vigorously, eyes straining to see the horizon. She could only hope she was going the right way.
And then, there.
In the distance.
A small stretch of land, such a beautiful sight to see for eyes accustomed to seeing vast blueness.
She had done it.
Aree had found land.

Hope you enjoyed! This book would kind of be set in the future, I think.
Comment here to claim this and finish the story!
—————————>I would enjoy reading this so much! I was originally going to write the whole story, but decided I'm already writing enough.
