Rei was hunched over the desk in the dimly lit library, surrounded by piles of books and scrolls. Her wavy purple hair cascaded over her work as she furiously scribbled notes, her glasses perched on her nose. She was so immersed in her writing that she barely noticed the sound of footsteps approaching.
Khan, clad in his imposing red armor, approached Rei with a mix of admiration and concern. He had seen her dedication and hard work countless times, but tonight, something tugged at his heartstrings. He decided to do something he had never done before and approached the scholar after making a short trip into the palace's kitchen.
"Rei," he called with a stern tone, placing a steaming cup of hot chocolate milk and a plate of soft cookies on the table beside her.
Rei looked up, startled to see Khan standing there with an unusually soft expression. "Commander Khan! You startled me," she said while adjusting her round glasses, his figure is really big and tall when compared to her, creating a shadow over her when he stands right behind her like that.
"I noticed you've been working late into the night again," Khan said, his voice stern but not unkind. "You need to take care of yourself too."
Rei raised an eyebrow, not used to anyone questioning her work habits. "I can handle it. I have a deadline," she retorted, taking a sip of the hot chocolate milk nonetheless, but it tasted so good that she quickly finished an entire mug in one go, then reached out into the small bowl of soft bite sized cookies to eat them.
Khan watched as Rei drank the hot chocolate, silently pleased that she was finally taking a moment to relax. "You're an important scholar, but even scholars need rest," he said firmly.
Rei scowled, feeling a mix of frustration and gratitude. "I don't need you to baby me," she muttered, attempting to continue her work. Her hands are tired and he can see it, her eyes are barely open and it's clear that she's forcing herself to finish this task tonight instead of saving it for tomorrow.
But Khan had other plans. He knew Rei needed rest, whether she wanted to admit it or not. Besides, he's already done with the evening patrol shift and heading to his bedroom to finally sleep, why not taking the bunny girl with him? The commander's big armored fingers gently took the feather pen from her hand, making it clear that the discussion was over.
"Enough for tonight, Rei," he said with authority, scooping her up in his strong arms despite her protests. He quickly roll her up with a blanket, resembling a burrito roll!
"Put me down, Khan! I can walk by myself!" Rei protested, squirming in his grasp and the blanket around her body.
But Khan remained unfazed, carrying her to his quarters as she continued to whine and protest. He placed her on his bed and tucked her in with the soft blanket- while yes still in her burrito roll mode.
"I don't need your help," Rei grumbled, crossing her arms defiantly.
Khan simply gave her a stern look before dimming the lights. "Rest is not a sign of weakness. It's necessary for a clear mind and fresh ideas," he said before leaving her to sleep.
As Rei drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but feel a mix of annoyance and flustered towards Khan. Maybe, just maybe, she could learn to accept help without feeling weak.
