Abhimanyu fixed his watch as he walked down the stairs. "Rooh? Princess?"
He walked down to the kitchen to find Manjari frowning at the stove. "Maa, Rooh kaha hain?"
"Goenka House." Manjari replied tersely.
Abhimanyu fetched himself a glass of water. "Acha? Aaj achanak kyun? Mimi, Bade Papa, sab theek hain na?"
"Sab theek hain."
"To aaj kuch khaas baath hain? "
Manjari clenched her fists. "Akshara laut aayi hain."
Abhimanyu froze, the glass slipping form his hand, shattering into a million pieces like his heart.
Akshara.
Akshu.
That name hadn't been uttered in Birla House in six long, agonising years. He hadn't heard a single word about her in all this time. Manjari couldn't tolerate those memories. All the photos had been replaced, all the clothes emptied out.
Even the plants that Akshara had planted were uprooted.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Nobody had been happier than Manjari when they heard that Akshara had left Udaipur.
"-- itne saale hogaye. Aur akeli nahi aaye hain!"
Abhimanyu came out of his reverie when he realised Manjari had not stopped talking.
"Matlab?" Abhimanyu's heart thundered against his ribcage.
"Pati aur baccha saath layi hain."
Abhimanyu could hear his carefully taped heart shatter again. "Ak-- shaadi ho gayi?"
"Uss ladki ka kya! Usne apni ghrahasti basa liya. Aur tum, Abhi! Abhi bhi che saal phele main atke hue ho."
Itna aasan tha tumhare liye Akshu? Hamari yaadein bhulana? Move on karna? Abhimanyu thought, a tear slipping out of his eye.
"Issi liye main kabse Karthik-ji se tumhari aur Aaru ki baat--"
"Maa!" Abhimanyu raised his voice, stopping her in her tracks. "Kitni baar aapse kaha hain! Maine aur Aarohi ne kitne baar mana kiya hain! Phir se vahi baath?"
"Main nahi manti!"
Aapne aaj thak kiski baath maani hain Maa? Abhimanyu thought to himself.
