 Chapter 4

A day like all the others

Today I woke up early. Especially if someone considers that I had nothing to do. I am sure that there are unpacked stuff all over the place but I choose to ignore them for now and lay on my living room's couch with a bowl of cereal.

I decided to watch Vampire diaries for the 58th time. I don't know why but I never get bored with this series until the new episode airs of course.

I watched one or two episodes before my eyes started closing. I only had time to see Elena confess her love to gorgeous Damon through half closed eyes and after their kiss I blacked out.

**************

When I woke up several hours must have passed because my back was aching from the uncomfortable couch, the tv was closed and I had a blanket covering me. Strange!I thought my mother had left early this morning. My hand that was hanging out of the blanket felt sticky.

"Caesar! Ew! You are disgusting!"

I scolded my monster but let's face it, I can't get mad with him. He just wanted to give me a kiss. Covering me with his drool is just a side effect. I got up to wash myself and Caesar complained showing me the door.

"Ok, ok I get it, I overslept. Give me a minute."

After I showered and changed my comfy pajamas to a blue skirt and white top I felt like prettifying myself so I applied mascara and lip gloss. I felt the need to be me again and the regular me would never go out without some make up on. I had started to look like a ghost these previous days I spend in home.

"Caesar! I'm ready." I took a spin. "How do I look?"

He ignored me, walked to the door and barked once.

"Oh! Come on you are not exciting." I grabbed his leash and took him outside.

It was a beautiful optimistic day. Even the sun decided to make its appearance. Despite the fact that it was summer, I knew London rarely got sunny.

Making it to the park with this impatient dog tired me quickly. I tied Caesar at the nearest bench and sat down to catch my breath.

I had my eyes closed and my head leaned behind enjoying the hot sun caressing my face when I noticed the tree's leaves above my head making noises. At first I ignored it but then I remembered that all this time I've been outside it was not windy at all. I opened my eyes out of curiosity of what could possible make so much noise.

There, between branches and leaves I spotted some untidy, reddened from the sun, hair attached to someone on the tree. I immediately recognized the climbing silhouette and I was trying to contain myself before I loudly burst out laughing.

"Melia?"

"Hi Kyran. What are you doing up there?"

Instead of answering my question he pointed to a branch higher and righter of the place he was. Firstly I didn't understand but then I heard a meow from the direction he was pointing. That's when I spotted a little black hairy ball. A tiny black kitten was trapped on the tree that's why he was up there.

"Oh! The poor thing. How did it go so high?"

"I don't know. I'm just trying to reach it."

Caesar came closer to speculate what we were doing and the kitten meowed again. Then he started barking loudly. I couldn't make him shut up so I transferred him to a further bench giving him his emergency toy. I returned back to Kyran. From where I was standing, I could see that he was too far away and he couldn't reach the kitty. If I wasn't wearing a skirt maybe I could climb higher since I'm lighter and catch it. I was debating whether to go home and change when Kyran had an idea.

I searched for a fallen branch as he instructed me and then stepped on the bench I was sitting before. Me on the bench holding the branch, could almost reach the kitten. Kyran was calling the kitty and I was lightly shoving it towards him. It didn't move at first but after some sweet talking from Kyran it moved some inches.

Something tells me she is a girl.

"Come sweetie don't be afraid" he says again and with a last stretch he finally managed to catch it.

I left the branch where I found it and returned back to Kyran with Caesar right behind me. Kyran has climbed down from the tree and he was holding the little trouble maker. Caesar approached to smell our new friend and I was ready to pull him away if it was necessary but he did the unexpected by licking the kitten's face!

Kyran and I laughed relieved and sat together on the bench. We exchanged pets and I was caressing the little girl while he was playing with Caesar.

I looked at him and thought how good he is with animals when he turned and looked back at me. I felt my face heat up but I didn't draw my gaze away.

"Thank you" he said finally.

"For what?"

"For helping me catch her, I've been trying the whole morning to find a way."

"It did nothing, just held a branch" I answered and looked back at the kitten. His gaze makes me nervous.

We sat in silence for a while caressing our friends. I felt uncomfortable. I wanted to talk with him more but I didn't know what to say. Suddenlyh e broke the silence first.

"I think we should let her go now"

"I thought she is yours!"

"Nah, I was just passing by and heard her"

"Ok then." "But what if she gets lost"

He laughed.

"She is a cat, she won't get lost."

I hesitated but he seemed sure about this. I petted her one more time and gave her to him.

He looked at me curiously.

"I can't just let her go. She is too small."

He shaked his head in disbelief and took the kitten. Then he walked towards the trees and slowly set the little one down.

"Run to your mum" he said but she hesitated.

After a second she took off running like lighting.

"Goodbye kitty" I told her.

Almost right away after he sat back to the bench his cell phone rung. He glazed the screen, left a frustrated sigh and got up again.

"I have to go home. Coming?"

To his house? I mentally slapped myself. To the building he meant.

"No, Caesar is not ready yet."

All this time we were here Caesar hadn't moved away from us, more specifically him, so I had to wait for him to do his thing.

"Ok! Nice seeing you Melia."

"Bye Kyran" I waved as he walked away.

I sighed, Come on Caesar, I'm tired.
