Julio's P.O.V.
I stood outside the university by myself just to clear my head from all my college work. It's been two months that I've been at Swanson, and I can't lie I miss home. It still doesn't feel right without Gloria and Miguel, but Joshua and his friends are making me feel like I belong. But Ethan on the other hand; that's a completely different story.
I never went to the party which started an hour ago because I was honestly tired of wasting my gas just to go for three seconds then leave. But thankfully Ethan went so I was able to get some space for a couple hours.
Luckily the last few months he hasn't been all on me as much as he was before. I began to think that he may have found someone. Yeah right. This is Ethan I'm talking about who hates relationships. But that's when I felt my phone ring in my flannel pajama pants. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that it was my mom calling.
"Hola mamá (Hey mom)," I spoke once I picked up her call.
"Hola Lio (Hey Lio)," her voice spoke through the phone.
"¿Qué pasa? (What's going on?)" I asked, now sitting down on the bench.
"¿Qué dices? (What are you talking about?) I can't call my son and check up on him in his second month of college?"
I chuckled at her excuse. "No mamá I'm not saying that."
I heard her chuckle as well which caused me to snicker along with her. I leaned back on the bench staring out the parking lot of the University while my mom went on about her first couple days with no more kids in the house.
"So, what about you hijo (son)," my mom's voice said, bringing me back to reality. "How's college treating you?"
I shrugged. "It's not that bad," I replied dryly.
"Have you made any friends?"
"Yeah," I said. "A couple actually. They're a whole group and they convinced me to go to my first college party."
"And?" she asked, sounding intrigued to know what happened.
"And what mom." I shrugged again. "It was just a college party. Nothing different from a high school party."
"What do you mean high school party hijo (son)?" my mom exclaimed and that was when I realized I said too much.
"Mom, I have to get back to studying," I said quickly.
She started speaking in Spanish too quickly for me to understand so I quickly hung up. I sighed then checked the time.
11:40 pm.
It was very quiet outside besides the wind that blew the trees and the annoying sounds of the grasshoppers and crickets in the bushes. But the sudden sound of footsteps approaching behind me made me realize that I wasn't going to be alone anymore.
"Hola (Hi)," a familiar female voice spoke over my shoulder.
I looked back and grinned when I saw that it was Maxx. She was dressed up like she was about to go to the party instead of in her pajamas, so I assumed she was on her way there.
"Hola (Hi)," I responded.
"Mind if I-"
"Oh no go ahead," I offered too quickly for her to finish her sentence and once she sat down beside me, I carried on. "Are you on your way to the party?" I asked, facing her.
"What makes you think I'm going to the party?" she asked in defense.
"Well, you're not going to bed dressed like that," I clarified which caused her to let out a laugh.
"How would you know," she asked, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Who goes to bed in a full face of make-up, hair done, spider web stockings, jean shorts, and a leather jacket?" I questioned and couldn't help but laugh with her just waiting for her response.
"People," she replied still laughing.
"Oh, right okay," I spoke with a snicker.
Our laughs were slowly fading away and I spoke again. "But you never answered my question."
"What question?" she asked cluelessly.
"Are you going to the party?"
She shook her head. "Nope."
"Why," I asked with a raise of my eyebrow.
"Because I already went."
"What do you mean you already went? The party just started an hour ago."
"I know that," she spoke. "And I left."
"Why did you leave?" I asked. "Because I wasn't there?"
"Exactamente (Exactly)," she replied so quickly that I wasn't able to tell if she was being serious or not.
"Wait really?" I asked for clarification.
She nodded then a smile grew on her face. "Yes, and because Logann left. She's my ride."
"Oh." Was all I said at the moment.
We stared into each other's eyes, neither of us knowing what to say or do right now. But I cleared my throat. "Maxx."
"Yes."
I watched as her eyes brightened up the same way they did when she first saw me. I moved my body closer to her and placed my hand on her thigh, not breaking eye contact.
"Can I kiss you?" I asked in a whisper and without hesitation she nodded her head.
"Sí (Yes)," she whispered back to me. "Sí (Yes). Por favor (Please)."
I glided my hand up her thigh to her arm then her shoulder and finally I cupped her cheek. I gently brushed my thumb against her cheek and watched her eyes close slowly as I brought her face closer to mine. I stopped once our lips were seconds away from touching to just admire her. It wasn't just her beauty that drew me to her, but it was the way she spoke Spanish to me. No girl or should I say woman has made me feel this way before.
So finally, I connected our lips and this time it felt more real than the last time we kissed which was from Spin the bottle. This time it was our choice to kiss. I ran my hands down to her waist and felt our lips separate as she crawled to sit on my lap. Our lips connected again only for a second this time.
"¿Qué tal si llevamos esto a mi dormitorio? (How about we take this to my dorm)," I spoke in a low tone.
She nodded. "Bien (Okay)."

Coming up in the next chapter - Chapter 14: Together After All
"Where's your girlfriend at?"
"Who Maxx?" I asked.
Ethan smirked. "Is there another one?"
I shook my head. "I just wouldn't call her my girlfriend is all."
"Why not?" he asked. "You guys' kiss 24/7. You cuddle 24/7. You sleep at her place." He shrugged his shoulders. "I would say that's a girlfriend."
"I don't think you should be the one telling me what a girlfriend is," I said, looking away from him.
"Why because I'm gay?"
