“Who’s that guy?”
“I don’t know…why? You like him?”
“He does look rather interesting.”
“He keeps looking at his watch, like he’s bored or something. Maybe he’s waiting on his girlfriend to arrive,” said the girl with a short, brunette bob-like cut. One could mistake her for Christina Ricci, when she played the role of Trixie on the movie Speed Racer. She studied the boy rather carefully, as the sounds of What You Do to Me by Blakroc played in the background. Another girl, with a burly build and Auburn hair walked up on the duo of females observing the boy, like an Animal Planet TV show. “That’s Alonzo…he’s a real good friend of Cam’s. This is the first time I’ve seen him in like almost a couple of years though,”
“A couple of years? Is he like, wanted by the police or something? Was he in jail?” asked a blonde. She had a platinum blond pixie cut, and her eyes were heavily done, as if she were going for the “emo” look that evening. She wore a Hole t-shirt, and dark jeans.
“Nah. He has a kid, that he has been takin care of,” answered the Auburn girl. “He stays in LB, off West Lincoln…he spends all his time takin care of his kid,”
“Awww!” postured the blonde.
“So is he, and the mother of the child still talkin, or together?” asked the brunette, while slowly raising her bottle of Natty Light to her glossy lips.
“Last I heard from Cam- nope,”
“Look at Criss…she wants him,” teased the blonde.
“Shut up!” squealed the brunette. “I dunno. Too much baggage…he has a kid. Prolly ‘baby mama drama’ too,”
“Baby mama drama didn’t stop you from the last disaster,” laughed the blonde, as she tossed her hanging mane back. “C’mon Criss- he looks waay better than Bryant. That guy had a kid, and he was still married and living at home with his wife. At least this one isn’t with his…and he still handles his fatherly duties,”
“All the more reason for me to not talk to him,” replied the brunette. “I can’t do the ‘extra baggage’ shit anymore. Fucking with Bryant took me to places I didn’t know existed, and rather would’ve kept it that way. I mean forreal, Austyn, I was having all out wars with his baby mama on the phone?! No…never again,”
“Okay,” sighed the blonde.
They turned their attention to the boy, who was now gone from the seat where he once resided. The girls walked into the kitchen, through the open patio doors, to the pool, where the host- Cameron Wheeler, or Cam, as they called him for short- was grilling. He stood there, in his vintage Schoolhouse Rock tee, faded jeans, and worn out vans…he had a big cooly smile on his face, as he talked with a few friends, while holding a Rolling Rock beer in one hand, and the spatula in the other. The Auburn haired girl walked to him, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Hey Cam baby, when is the kabobs gonna be done?”
