We pull up to the school and Mack parks his truck in the parking lot. The parking lot is filled with vehicles and there's even a couple of limos. Everyone is going all out. I can't imagine what prom is going to be like.
Roman gets out first and I follow suit. He places his arm out for me and I put my hand in it.
"Ready?" Avery asks craning her neck towards the entrance.
"Ready." I say with a nod.
We all walk towards the entrance. We hand out tickets to Mr. Jackson, our school basketball coach, and he gives us each a wristband showing that we paid.
Next, we line up to have our photos taken.
Standing in line, I see Britney with Justin. I roll my eyes at that coupling. She places her hand on his chest and poses for their photo.
Our pictures are next and we take turns doing couple photos and then we do a group shot of the four of us.
Afterwards, we head inside the gym. It's decorated to the nines. Gorgeous winter formal theme. There are giant snowflakes, fabric and fairy lights. It's beautiful.
The stage is set up for a live band. And it looks like they're setting up. I don't recognize them right off, but I'm surprised when I see Cooper step up towards the guitarist.
"Did you know?" Mack asks me, his voice full of surprise.
I shake my head, "no I didn't."
"Shit," Avery says lowly and what we're all thinking.
"He plays too?" Roman asks gesturing towards Cooper.
"No," I tell him. "He sings."
"Well isn't that perfect," he says laughing.
People are starting to pile into the gym and the band has started to play whatever was on record. I guess they're not doing anything live yet.
I dance a few songs with Mack, Avery and Roman, and have pretty much worked up a sweat. I gesture to Roman that I'm going to get a drink, and make my way over towards the table.
I get to the table and bump into Britney. "Watch where you're going!" She sneers at me.
"Sorry," I say as I swipe my hands on my dress.
"You look beautiful," Cooper says from behind me.
I turn around quickly, the drink sloshing in my hand.
Cooper is squatting on the stage. His hair is messy, but in the best way. He is wearing a black dress shirt, the sleeves rolled up. His tattoos on both arms visible. A few buttons are undone, showing a bit of skin. He's wearing black slacks, fastened with a black belt. He finishes the outfit with his black leather boots.
I look back up at him and for the first time, he isn't smirking at me. He's actually wearing a small smile.
I can't help but mimic it in return. "Thank you," I say as a blush creeps up.
"Stunning actually," he says clearing his throat.
"What are you doing here?" I ask looking around.
"What does it look like?" He asks raising his brow.
"I thought you only played at the bar?"
"Things change Kenz," he says with a wink.
"Coop man, you ready?" His drummer asks.
"Gotta go pretty girl," he says standing up. "Save me a dance."
I turn around and walk back over towards Avery, Mack and Roman. They're standing closer towards the stage.
