Monday morning comes all to quickly. I spent the rest of the weekend sulking at home due to my groundation.
I make my way to my locker after class and catch up with Avery.
"Hey girl," I say as I walk up to her.
"Hey." She grunts out as she fights with a book stuck in her locker.
I laugh and reach around, grabbing it, trying to help her get it out.
"When's the last time you cleaned your locker?" I laugh trying to pry the thing from this death trap.
"Oh, you know." She says as I finally pluck the book free and hand it over to her. "So, what have you been up to?"
I grab a package of twizzlers out of my bag, "grounded. You?"
"Why grounded?" She asks taking a twizzler from me.
"My parents might have caught me in a mild predicament with Cooper Saturday..." I trail off as I take a bite of my candy.
She grabs ahold of my arm, stopping me. "Mild predicament?" She asks raising her brow.
"We may have been in a heated make out session in my back yard?" I say but it comes out as a question.
She laughs at me but turns serious. "But you're being careful right Kennedy?"
I nod my head, "yes mother."
She sighs, "I mean it. I don't want you get hurt. Cooper doesn't have a stellar reputation when it comes to being your friend."
I toss my candy back in my bag, "things change Avery. We're not kids anymore."
We make it to the cafeteria and we get into line. I make my way over to the hot lunch while Avery decides on the salad bar.
Walking over to our table, we see Mack sitting there already. I take a seat and open my milk. "Hey buddy, how ya doing?"
He looks up from his phone, "alright. Just had to get that physical out of the way for basketball season."
"I figured there was a reason you were ditching this morning," I say with a laugh.
Avery sits down next to Mack and he gives her a quick peck. "Do you need a ride home today?" Mack asks placing his phone down.
"Probably for the best," I say as I take a bite out of my mashed potatoes. "I'm grounded until further notice and I don't want to push my luck."
Mack doesn't pry and just nods his head.
"Shoot." Avery says stabbing her lettuce. "So I guess that means we're a no go for Friday night?"
Crap, that's right. Friday night is the pre-basketball season party. I can't believe I forgot about that.
I take a sip of my milk, "I wouldn't say no just yet. My parents my unground me by then."
"Good," Avery says smiling. "Because you don't want to miss that."
After a few minutes of conversation, someone bumps into me and I feel liquid being poured onto my shirt.
"Oops," a voice says from behind me.
I turn to see who it is and see Britney standing there with Ashley and Jessica.
"Sorry," Britney says with a fake smile. "Didn't see you there."
"Sure you didn't," I say as I move to stand up.
Avery hands me some napkins and I reach over to grab them from her.
"Maybe you should learn to stay out of my way," Britney says her tone accusatory.
