Everyone at home was elated. Even Wren was happy and she was getting crushed by a person on top of her. A few minutes later, Jade was carried to the medical wing to cure her non-existent wounds. Both Dr T and Dr D, who was formerly a super villain but changed paths, examined her and discharged her almost immediately.
She walked back home with a promise of a better life in her pocket. She would be able to prevent more deaths from happening, Jade was bursting in joy. Only one more round left, this time to disqualify.
She arrived at home and unlocked the front door. Her family and friends were sitting on the sofa and were staring at her, comforting a woman she had never seen before. The woman had brown hair , hazel eyes and a grey dress that slowly turned black as she sobbed into her hands.
"What were you doing Jade? You killed Mrs Ranges' only daughter!" Jade's mother screamed.
"I thought you would be proud because I won?" Jade asked.
"Proud? Proud to have a murderer in my family? Proud to have another person's blood on my hand?" Mrs Relic screeched.A hand was placed on Mrs Relic's shoulder, momentarily calming her down. Mrs Ranges had placed her hand there and her dress was entirely black. Her face was distorted with pain, her size was getting bigger and her nails dug into the skin of Jade's face. Mrs Ranges was a Tiwaeli, a cannibalistic creature that preyed on humans once a month. As she looked behind the Tiwaeli, her friends and family were dead and her mother was spared. Tiwaeli laughed as Jade struggled in pain. The blood loss was too much and Jade fainted. Mrs Ranges transformed back into a human and ate Jade's body.
At that moment, Jade woke up. She was in her room, she must have passed out when she arrived back home. Jade got off the bed and started packing her clothes. She would be picked up and dropped off at the last place. Fifty champions from every state would come to the Capitol and compete for a change of a law. She would only pack her stuff in case she won. The front door was knocked on and Jade sprinted down the stairs. The government officials were already there near the door.
Jade bid her goodbyes to her family and walked towards them. The government officials took her to the car and drove her to the last contest.
"Are Tiwaeli real?" Jade questioned.
"Yes, the only group left is the Range family," the government official replied.Jade had made her mind, Mrs Range married Mr Range then gave birth to Tess Rebbecca and ate her own husband. The only thing that did not make any sense was, why would Mrs Range marry a human? An hour later, they arrived at the hospital. The hospital was vast and had multiple hiding areas. The government official tapped Jade's shoulder.
"In an hour, hide in a random room. Mrs Range is here."
Jade stared in shock, she was joking right? Jade ran in the hospital, her hair flowing behind her. She was in the front lobby of the hospital, the chairs were plush and an escape route was above her head. She found a key and lock along with a long pole. Jade opened the grate with the pole and went up to go in the vents. She then closed the vent and locked it. She crawled around the vents and explored it.
A buzzer beeped and growling was heard underneath her. Screams filled the vents, and Jade crawled to the closest opening. This round only one person survives, the others die. That means out of all the fifty states, only one student wins. Jade peeked out of the vent, it was truly Mrs Ranges ripping apart the girl from Ohio. The girl had a weapon that shot out needles from it and she fired it into the vents. The needle scratched Jade's cheek and drew blood. The Ohio girl died soon after the needle was shot and the Tiwaeli smelled the blood coming from Jade's cheek and grinned, the Tiwaeli's teeth shining and sharp.
Jade slid away as Mrs Ranges tried to get to her, bumping and denting the vents. Jade crawled as fast as she could remembering all the rules of the final round. This round, fifty people were chosen from other states, who won by competing in the final round, and came to the new area.
Every year, the challenge is different. The year before the contestants were chained to a cross and that year, Ethan Butte won. Not only was Ethan a very murderous person, he killed a bunch of people during the game. Before he could change a law, Ethan suddenly died of mysterious causes. Jade started reminiscing over the previous games, some contestants died like Ethan, such as John, Lincoln, Marley and Clara. The only thing that all of them have in common is that they all were murderous. As they stayed at the Capitol, somehow they had died. Jade must have been several miles away from her original spot when she finally sat down.
The government's view on the human population is like every hundred people is a pinch of salt. The lives of the people of the United States are not important, the government's jobs are.
