As I hurry into the locker room, the song "Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears fill my ears, courtesy of my trusty walkman. Excitement courses through me as I open my locker and retrieve my sports kit, ready to hit the field.
"SOMETHING HAPPENS AND IM HEAD OVER HEELS" I can't help but shout out the lyrics, my fists clenched with enthusiasm and my eyes tightly squeezed, feeling the energy of the song.
"I NEVER FIND OUT TILL IM HEAD OVER HEELS" Lottie's voice joins in, although somewhat muffled by my headphones, her passion is unmistakable.
"SOMETHING HAPPENS AND IM HEAD OVER HEELS" The infectious beat makes me grab Lottie's hands, and we start dancing and jumping around the room. Jackie and Shauna look over, catching the rhythm, and soon enough, they join in, clapping in sync with the music while laughing.
"AH, DONT TAKE MY HEART" Lottie belts out with a huge smile on her face, her happiness contagious.
"DONT BREAK MY HEART" Van runs over, grabbing our hands, while Tai observes the fun unfolding.
"DONT, DONT, DONT THROW IT AWAY" We all sing together, united in laughter and joy, carried away by the camaraderie.
"I hate that song," Nat remarks, leaning against a locker. I can't resist teasing her, so I pull down my headphones and walk over, positioning my arm next to her head.
"Sorry it's not alternative enough for you," I playfully wink, giving Nat a gentle boop on the nose, eliciting a laugh from her.
Heading back to my locker, I tuck my walkman safely into my bag and proceed to change into my jersey, proudly sporting number three.
As I hum a few lines from the song while tying my shoelaces, Jackie walks over and places a hand on my shoulder. "Jeff's driving me home, but Shauna said she'll still drive you back," she informs me. I nod gratefully, flashing Shauna a smile and silently mouthing the words "Thank you" before dashing out onto the field, eager to start practice.
As I join the line of girls waiting for Coach Scott's instructions, I can't help but acknowledge that I don't know Shauna very well. While she's been Jackie's best friend since middle school, our interactions have been limited to a simple exchange of greetings, mostly when she drives Jackie and me to and home from school.
Today marks the first time we'll be spending some one-on-one time together, and I'm feeling a mix of anticipation and curiosity. Shauna seems nice enough, so I'm not too worried, though I can't help but wonder what our conversation will be like. I hope it turns out to be an alright experience, and certainly not one where I end up getting brutally murdered in her car. But Shauna wouldn't do that, well, at least I hope not!
"Hello girls, are you guys ready for practice today?" he says enthusiastically. Misty Quigley excitedly jumps from beside him and i hear a couple of the girls laugh.
Coach announces that we'll be practicing passing, I can't help but furrow my brows. I mean, we all know how to pass a ball, right?
I glance at Jackie, who starts whispering to Shauna, but their volume is a bit too loud, so I wouldn't be shocked if everyone can hear what they're talking about.
"Jeff wants to do, you know!" Jackie says. I giggle and lean into her ear. "Unless you want everyone to know about your boyfriends sex desires I wouldn't be talking so loud."
Shauna laughs but Jackie covers her mouth and frowns.
I smile at Shauna, she has a really cute laugh. I don't know how i haven't noticed it before.
My teasing gets interrupted as Coach clears his throat, drawing our attention back to the practice. Jackie takes responsibility for our little distraction, apologizing to Coach. He nods and looks around at everyone. "Right" Coach Scott begins to put everyone in pairs.

Van X Y/NAs Coach announces our names, Van and I exchange glances, and our excitement is evident as we clench our fists and raise them in the air with big smiles.
With the ball in hand, Van and I rush to the far left side of the field, feeling fortunate to be partnered together. "Lucky us, we got each other," Van remarks with a playful grin, kicking the ball my way. "Literally, did you see the look on Jackie's face when she didn't get Shauna?" I chuckle as I kick the ball back to her, and she effortlessly rests a foot on it.
"She looked like a lost child in a grocery store" Van humorously comments on Jackie's reaction, and we can't help but burst into laughter. Our infectious laughter earns us curious glances from the other girls, which only adds to the hilarity of the moment, making us laugh even more.
After an hour of practicing various passing techniques and sharing laughter (which was definitely what we did most), Coach Scott finally announces that practice is over, and it's time for us to head home.
In the changing rooms, I waste no time and hop into the shower to wash away the sweat from the intense practice. I reach for the bar of soap and it accidentally falls to the floor "None of you better fuck me while I pick it up" I yell. Van pokes her head around the corner. "Well there goes my fucking afternoon plans" she says sarcastically which causes everyone to laugh.
I bend down to pick up the soap and get back to showering.
After wrapping up practice, I quickly change into some comfy spare clothes – joggers and a simple black t-shirt. No need to dress to impress right now.
Heading outside, I wait by Shauna's car. It doesn't take long for her and Jackie to walk outside, but it also doesn't take long for Jackie to run off to meet Jeff. I lock eyes with Jeff and playfully do the "I'm watching you" gesture, which prompts a nervous reaction from him as he quickly looks away and heads to his car with Jackie.
As Shauna notices my gesture towards Jeff, she can't help but laugh. "Think you just ruined his plans?" she asks, unlocking her car with a grin. I hop into the passenger seat with a mischievous smile, saying, "Hopefully."
As Shauna starts the car and begins driving, "I noticed you and Van were laughing all practice" I laugh at the thought, simply replying, "Mhm,"
"Right so-" I start to laugh. "Jackie" I laugh again which makes Shauna actually turn to look at me. She laughs too but only because I cant get through the whole sentence.
"Jackie pulled a face" I laugh.
"When she didn't get partnered with you. Van said she looked like a lost child in a grocery store"
Shauna bursts out into hysterics. "You were laughing the whole time because of that"
I nod while smiling.
Shauna pulls up to my house and I unbuckle my belt but before I leave I turn to her. "Thank you for the ride, you didn't have to"
She nods. "I know. But I wanted to. You're my best friends twin after all" I get out of the car and look through her window.
I point and squint my eyes. "Fraternal, Though" I say in a low voice. She giggles. "Fraternal, of course"
"Bye Shauna" I say with a smile while backing away from the car. "Bye Y/N" She says before driving off.
