PART ONE : RUN AWAY
CHAPTER NINE
JIWOO

"Have you thought much on what college you want to go to, or if you want to even go to college?" My father asks from the driver's side of the car, both hands on the wheel. It was raining heavily, the windshield wipers moving rapidly.

It was late on a Sunday; my dad was wearing his normal attire of a pair of black dress pants and a white button up shirt. Wonwoo had a soccer team camp this weekend while mum was working, meaning dad was the only one able to make it to my art show tonight.

Dad always made time to come to every single one of my shows, I would always catch him praising me to his co-workers, telling them that they should by a piece off me or get a commission. He was very proud of me and never failed to tell me that.

"My dream college would be the Royal Art College in London, but that is a pretty big dream. I'm not sure I'll have the grades to get there." I confide in him.

"The only subject you struggle is Math, I'm sure we can get you a tutor if you want. You know how to speak English so that's not a problem." My dad says. He always been a great listener, he'll also give solution to your problems. He always told Wonwoo and I that there was no use complaining without a solution.

"It's very expensive, not only the tuition fees but the whole moving over to another country." I say, always worrying about the little details.

"That's the good thing about being a teenager, you don't have to worry about any of those things. Your mum and I will take care of everything, you just focus on your grades and your art. You'll get there, sweetie." He says, taking one hand off the wheel to pat my head.

A loud ring echoed around the car, dad took his hand from my head, moving it to his phone that was in its holder attached to the air vent. He went to press the accept button that would allow the call to go through the car speakers.

His phone fell the moment his hand came in contact with the device, he to his eyes off the road for two seconds, leaning down to grabbing his ringing phone. Admittedly, I looked away also, trying to see where it went, feeling like the car was drifting slightly I returned my gaze back to the road.

Well, what I could see of the road, my eyes were blinded by bright lights, truck headlights. "Dad, Dad, DAD!" I screamed out, causing him to pay attention to the road and the truck we were about to hit.

He jolted the steering wheel, swerving away from the oncoming truck. My hand grabbed onto the door and the dash, trying to steady myself as our car spun out controllably. I noticed my dad viciously trying to centre us and stop us from spinning.

I felt as of time I slowed down, I watched as our surroundings blurred, the rain and spinning making a deadly dizzy combo. At some point, during the agonisingly slow accident, I noticed my dad take his hands from the wheel. He unclipped his seatbelt and grabbed my head in his arms, I lost sight of the pelting rain, only seeing my dad's white dress shirt.

"I love you, Ji." I managed to hear through his ragged breaths. Crunching of metal and loud screeches returned time to its normal pace. Everything turned black.

When the blackness subsided, I wasn't in the car, I was standing near it. There was no pain in my body, the rain was falling on to my skin and hair, drenching it, yet I felt nothing.

The SUV had lost control, spinning ferociously until the front of it had smashed into a nearby tree, the impact mainly on the passenger side. The car was crush, fluid leaked from the crumpled engine, white smoke billowed out from the concaved hood.
