Warnings - health emergency, disability

"You're so cute," he giggled. We were on a date. We were trying the dumbest ways to make each other laugh. We'd semi hiked to a nice spot, and we were having a picnic. I'd been feeling weird since we'd sat down, I was exhausted, over heated, and my chest hurt. Yes, of course I knew I wasn't supposed to get too active with my heart condition, but I hadn't wanted to bug Edgar. His disability was so much more debilitating and obvious that I hated to bring up mine. Not to mention his could be a blessing, he had so many talents, and I just got tired easily.

"Really, a silly face made you break?" I asked.

"I'm sorry, you're just so cute," he giggled again. I leaned in to kiss him, but I felt dizzy. This wasn't from love. I fell sideways as my vision blurred. Edgar was desperately trying to help.

I woke up to a beeping heart monitor. Who I saw was not my mother or my father, but Edgar. He was lightly sleeping in a chair, his face so carefree.

"Edgar!" I croaked, so happy to see him.

"Baby!" He awoke with a start. I loved when he gave me pet names.

"Ed," I said weakly. He laid his head on my shoulder, we used this as a replacement for hugging when it wouldn't be safe.

"I was so worried," he whispered. "I love you so much and I was so scared."

"It happens sometimes when I over exert myself, not big deal," I smiled.

"No big deal!" He nearly shouted, it was the first time he'd ever raised his voice. "You sound like a teacher. It is a big deal, the girl I love, my forever, was in pain and suffering and felt like she couldn't tell me to the point that she passed out."

I'd never seen him like this. I was shocked, but all I could think of was him saying, his forever, because I wanted that so badly.

"Edgar, you said forever," I said slowly.

"I'm sorry, If you don't feel the same.."

"I do though," I agreed. "I want forever with you. You're my boy, my sweet Angel. I just want to do life with you."

He looked so happy for a moment, but then he got stern.

"I know I don't often make requests," he said awkwardly. He looked nervous. Usually, I led these interactions. I was excited for him To take the lead.

"Do it, request it!" I begged.

"Tell me when you're feeling bad. I've told you. Love me enough to tell me," he pleaded.

"It isn't that I don't love you," I said. "I'm just scared to overwhelm you."

"If anyone can overwhelm me, it should be the girl I love," he said with a smile.

"I promise Edgar, or should I say, my forever."

"I made you a get well basket. While I was I did all I could," he said sheepishly. I looked toward the basket filled with artfully cut fruit, delicate, decretive snowflakes, and a fully carved Noah's ark with all the animals.

"I know it's all trash," he said. Before he could demean himself further, I pulled him in for a kiss.
