Jace comes to the apartment after the banquet. He always does, because there's always some drama. But this time there seems to be a lot more.

"Wait, so this all stems from the trade rumors that haven't even been put in place?" I ask.

"They won't be put in place," Jace says. "Because we aren't playing tomorrow."

I raise my eyebrows. "Seriously?"

"Seriously. Dominate and the Ducks agreed that we would not play in the Finals. They're supposed to be spreading the word to the other campers right now."

"What are you guys going to do?"

Jace grins. "We're going to the lake."

"Oh," I say, nodding.

"Don't worry, you're invited," Jace says. "We're going to treat it like an actual summer camp. Tubes, water guns, all of it. It'll be so fun. I'll come get you in the morning?"

I smile. "That sounds great, Jace, but–"

"Also, I agree with Sofi. I think you should start playing hockey again."

"You're playing hockey?" Mom asks, coming out of the kitchen.

I turn to her. "No, I'm not. Jace and Sofi were practicing shooting and I joined them. That's it."

"But she's still got an awesome shot, Mrs. Griffin," Jace says, smiling. "She was better than me."

I scoff. "Well, when it comes to shooting, it's not that hard to be better than you right now."

Jace frowns, looking hurt.

"Evelyn," Mom scolds.

I close my eyes. "I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. Now, Mom, can Jace and I please finish our conversation?"

Mom shakes her head and walks away. I turn back to Jace.

"I'm sorry. I just don't want to anymore, Jace. It's not something you can hop right back into after four years. It's a different age group, different rules. I can only shoot. And it's not like I could play this summer, you guys already had the draft. I can't play on a team. I mean, Finals are supposed to be tomorrow. That's it."

Jace nods. "Yeah, okay. But will you still come to the lake?"

"Yeah, I'll come to the lake."

Jace goes to walk away but I grab his arm and pull him into a hug.

"I'll see you tomorrow morning," I whisper in his ear, then kissing his cheek.

He nods, pulling away. As he walks away, he still looks hurt.

Jace knocks on the door at nine the next morning. Greg and Mom left a few hours ago for work and I'm already wearing my bathing suit underneath my clothes.

I open the door and the first thing Jace does is pull me in and kiss me. He pulls away, but doesn't let go of my waist, just presses his forehead against mine.

"I'm sorry about last night, again," I say.

"No, I am. I should've known about the hockey thing. I'm glad you still decided to come today. You better hurry though, the entire campus is there already."

I step away from him and into the dining room, grabbing my Polaroid camera. I meet him in the hallway again and lock the door.

He looks at the camera. "Ah yes, the old Polaroid camera."

I smile. "Gotta remember these things somehow."

He puts his arm around my shoulders. "No worries, I think it's cute."
