History: Built in 1902, Alice has spent her whole life working under the Great Northern Railway and, later, the London North Eastern Railway. She was retired from regular service in 1950 but quickly found a new life on the island Sodor.
After WWII, Sodor became immensely popular with tourists, and the demand for passenger services were evergrowing. This reached its peak in 1950, and Sir Topham Hat was in a desperate situation to accquire a new passenger locomotive. After some strong persuasion from Gordon, it was decided that Alice would be purchased. She arrived in 1951, and since has been responsible for a passenger service running between Knapford and Barrow in Furness. She is very dependable as she possess years of experience and is a valuable asset to the railway.
The reason for Gordon's insistance to accquire Alice is a deep rooted one. Turns out, Alice used to be Gordon's mentor, when he was new on the scene as a prototype engine. She had taught him invaluable skills and knowledges from 1920 to 1922, before the two seperated when Gordon left for the North Western Railway. His push to purchase gave her a second chance in life, and the two retains a respectful relationship to this day.
Name: Earl Marischal Gresley
Class: LNER P2 Mikado
Colour: LNER Darlington Green
Number: 2002
Role: Express passenger service
Description: well-adjusted, benevolent but has a tendency to bend over backwards
History: From 1934 to 1942, Earl Marischal operated on the difficult routes between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. He was purchased by the North Western Railway in 1943, just prior to being rebuilt as an A2/2 Pacific, as some higher-ups within the LNER were displeased with the decision to rebuild the Mikados, and made a backroom deal with the North Western Railway.
His arrival sparked little hostility between himself and Gordon, who was more than joyous to see a P2 on the railway, and quickly settled into his new life. His streamlined, A4 styled body was taken off, and he has since operated as one of the few Mikado designs in the country. The powerful nature of the P2 class means he can pull heavy passenger trains and still maintain a high average speed. This ability has garnered him admiration amongst the engines. He currently runs an express service named North Runner from Sodor to Aberdeen, stopping in Barrow in Furness, Newcastle and Edinbrugh in the process.
