Categories of Thowheed
A muslim should be well aware of the terms 'Illaa' , 'Rab' and 'Asma sifath' with it's clear meaning to protect the concept of Thowheed and to conduct himself according to it.
1) Thowheed Uluhiya
This originated from the word Ilaa. It is to believe that Allah is only worthy of being worshipped and also prayers, duas and seeking help should be done only to Allah alone. Allah is the only one who could provide perfect norms, laws, complete guidance and he is the one who has the authority over everything. Accepting all these beyond a shadow of doubt is known as Thowheed Uluhiya.
Only Allah the Almighty completely possess the attributes of Ilaa. He is the only one to be worshipped and to be seeking for help. There is no other ilaa than him. The Quran proves this in many places.
"Your God is One God: as to be those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts refuse to know, and they are arrogant."
[16:22]"And invoke not only any other god along with Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but he"
[28:88]"Allah has said: 'Take not (for worship) two gods: for He is just One God: then fear Me (and Me alone)"
[16:51]The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said;
"The words Ilaa and Illa are the most admirable words pronounced by me and the prophets before me"
[Buhary]2) Thowheed Ruboobiya
This originated from the arabic word 'Rab' or 'Rabbun' . Accepting that Allah is the creator, sustainer and protector is called Thowheed Ruboobiya.
"If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law), they will certainly reply, "Allah". How are they then deluded away (from the truth)?"
[29:61]Al-Quran has used the term "Rab" in the following meanings,
1. Sustainer, and the one who fulfills our need.
2. The one who watches, the one who is responsible, gives growth and reforms." And ye have no good thing but is from Allah: and moreover, when ye are touched by distress, unto Him ye cry with groans,"
[16:53]3.People will be gathered around him (in mahshar)
"Of no profit........ : He is your Lord! and to Him will ye return!"
[11:34]4. The one who makes us obey, leader the one who possesses complete authority, the one who commands, the one who has the complete power within him and has the ability to change it.
5. The master
"Master of the Day of Judgement."
[1:4]When a muslim clearly understands that Allah is unique in the concept of 'Rab' and 'Illah' and he is the Rab, then he fulfills his duties towards Allah (S.W.T) acurately accepting Him as Illah.
3) Thowheed Asma Sifath
The meaning of Asma is "names". Allah has 99 names and they are known as 'Asmaul Husna'. Allah the Almighty, he himself confirms this through Al-Quran.
"The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them: but shun such men as distort His names: for what they do, they will soon be requited"
[7:180]"Allah! there is no god but He! To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names"
[20:8]Prophet muhammed (sal) mentioned as;
"Allah the Almighty has 99 names the one who memorizes all these, will enter paradise. Allah is one; He prefers single."
[Buhari, Muslim]The meaning of Sifath is "attributes" anyone or anything consist qualities and attributes, but these attributes are within human knowledge. But Allah is completely different from His creations. He does not resemble anything or anyone. He is unique and we cannot imagine the 'Dharth' of Allah through His Sifaths.
"(He is) the creator...........: there is nothing whatever like unto Him, ......"
[42:11]
