The day I died was the day I woke up in hell. It was nothing like I had seen on TV or cartoons in the past. Before me was this huge gate will tall bars layered in barbed wire. The area was desolate, to the left and to the right, all I could see were dried up and sad looking trees, smoke covering the sky, and an enormous mansion that reached way above the smoke clouds.
I was in the back of a line that piled up to the gate's doors where a tall being in a black cloak stood with a clipboard and pen attached to it by a string, checking people in. As I waited more and more people poofed into existence behind me, making the line grow ever longer.
I make my way eventually to the front. Talk being was cloaked all around his body, only revealing his bone hands with scaly flakes and goat eyeless face with horns that stab the sides of his dark hood.
"Name?" He asks. His voice was loud as thunder yet sounded like a whisper.
I assumed it was a he but I wouldn't know.
"Dante" I say aloud.
He jots down something in his clipboard using a pen with a little skull at the end. It's a nice touch.
"Sin?" He says now.
"Sin?" I ask back to him and to myself.
It's then I try to think back to my life and see if I can remember my past. I knew that I had died and I knew I had sinned, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what I had done. Like all my history and all my life was erased and all I was was a blank slate, memoryless.
A void in my thoughts was all I had. The giant goat being gestures at my front pocket with his pen.
"Card." He says.
I pull out the card. It reflected different things in a language I don't understand. One side has a picture of me on it with scribble scrabble, the next side has checks and exes, and another has some sort of box with a description.
Not knowing what to do with it, I hand the mysterious card to him. He checks it and jots something down. With a ear aching rusty screech, the gate doors behind him finally open up. A fire lights up the way to one of the ginormous and towering buildings.
My feet act as if automatically and go down this lit up walk way. But I'm stopped by a scythe that runs right in front of me.
"Carddddddddd..." The goat demon grunts as the card floats from his palm, down his scythe and back into my front pocket.I thank him with a head nod, and continue forward to this ominous building. I didn't know what that card meant but I had an inkling that I would need it from here on out.
As I got up to the door I put my hand on the door handle and turned it. Now I don't remember my previous life, but going through this door must have been a unique experience.
As soon as I fingers touches the handle a bright light shines upon me and I'm blinded. An array of sparks and stars engulf my whole body, I'm transported to a world of shining and glowing objects as far as I can see.
I feel my body floating forward through an array of portals and passages like a strong wish gushing and blowing in my direction behind me.
Everything comes to a screeching halt as I'm dropped down onto the floor, dirt gets on me pants. My hands are scraped by the rocky ground, it hurts but in not bleeding.
I think to myself how I could have such pain but not have any visible cuts. That's when I hear an-
"Ahem" a female voice says, clearing her throat. I look up and see a group of people staring down at me. A lady in a formal suit, with horns on her head and a clip board in her hand is tapping her foot. I wonder what's the deal with the clipboards?
