-Brady POV! (Our first of this book, yay!)-

I got home after that, the others planned to come over tomorrow since Vance wasn't feeling well. Conrad fell asleep in the car, so I carried him to his bed, even if he was fourteen. He's light for me anyway.

When I came in the room, Gwen wasn't asleep.

"Gwen? It's like, two in the morning." Yes, Denver was super far from Holly, and there were like two traffic jams.

"Can't sleep."

"Again? They can't reach us here."

"I know, but if they do I wanna be ready."

"Gwen, you're safe."

"That's what you said last time. And the last. And. The. Last."

"I'm serious this time."

"I'm losing sleep, Brady. I'm losing sleep, I look in the mirror and it looks like I haven't slept or eaten in weeks, which, I haven't. What if..."

"What if...what?"

"What if I end up like..."

"Don't say that. Don't ever say that."

"Brady-..."

"You're not leaving. Okay? You can't. You'd be proving your dad right. What will I do?"

"You'd be okay...You've got the kids...And you've got Katie and Jack."

"But I want you. I want you alive. I want you next to me."

"Brady..."

"I can't lose you too, Gwen."

She just stared at me, then hugged me. "Im sorry...I won't. I'm not going anywhere, okay? Screw the press, screw the scientists...im here to stay."

"Thank you. So, you'll eat breakfast tomorrow?"

"No promises."

"Good enough."

She chuckled, resting her head on my shoulder.

At like, four in the morning, I heard Gwen wake up. She was sat up, so I sat up too. "Hey, you okay?"

"Mhm! Just a little nightmare."

"What about?"

"Oh, Just...Conrad..."

"Conrad-?"

"Yeah, your kid?"

"What about him..?"

Her smile faded. I immediately went to his room, and he wasn't on his bed anymore.

"Conrad?" I shook him. "Conrad." He didn't wake up after like, four more minutes. Right before I called 911 though, he did.

"Conrad? Thank God..."

"Hey dad- what happened?"

"Your heart stopped for a minute, then started beating again. After that you just didn't wake up."

"Oh...well, I do remember my heart started hurting really bad before I passed out- so..."

"Heart attack, maybe?"

"I'm fourteen-"

"Well you never know, kid. C'mon, we're taking you to the hospital to see what's wrong."

"Okay..."

"Hm...do you have a poor diet?"

"No..."

"Exercise?"
