Leon...

Fuck. I know him. I knew it.

Leon saved me in Raccoon City. After the emergency evacuation was issued, my family and I tried hard to get out, but so was the rest of the city. The roads were blocked off, the fires, the sirens. The virus spread so fast...eventually, no one was allowed to leave. I was split up from them—lost in the crowd of terrified survivors, police issuing orders like threats—when those infected attacked. The screaming, the blood—

Are you okay? He said to me after he shot the—the person that tried to eat me.

The memory hits me hard as I walk with the same man who saved me seven years ago in Raccoon City, an incident I've tried so hard for years to forget. Years to cope with the trauma, with the horrors I saw as a child. But I made it out, along with the rest of my family. And so did the man who saved my life, apparently. I truly feared he died all those years ago.
But he's standing right fucking here, sent by my father to save me once again.

I try to process all of this—the stranger from my past, my abduction, the way these people look so similar to those infected by the virus in Raccoon City. Too much. It's all too much. So I try to clear my head, stop my overthinking. Maybe it's not him. Maybe it's just a coincidence. But no matter what, I can't tell him. I can't fucking tell him anything because I made a promise.

We make our way to what Leon calls the village square. The storm is picking up, rain lashing out at us angrily, the wind only fueling the fire. We've run into so many villagers I've lost count, all with one sole purpose: kill Leon, capture me. I'm trying not to think too hard, but each second feels like it could be our last. I must've been quiet for too long because Leon looks back at me after shooting a villager in the head, killing them instantly.

"You okay?" he asks, cocking his gun and grabbing more ammo from his pouch to reload the empty barrel.

I can only nod, the panic and adrenaline running through my veins making it difficult to speak. I check my gun and find it empty. Leon notices and steps closer, taking my gun to reload it.

"Hey," he says as he loads my handgun. "You're okay. You're doing fucking amazing. We're almost there." He cocks my gun, handing it back, and I take it, the metal weapon heavy in my hand. It's him. I shove the thought away.

"Hunnigan was right about the weather," Leon says. "We better keep moving."

"Lead the way," I say, and Leon gives me one long look before continuing ahead.

We walk for what feels like a half hour, sticking to the shadows to avoid any run-ins with the locals. Thankfully, there are none, and finally, we make it to a drawbridge over a river of rushing water. The rain seems to have picked up, and both of us are now drenched to the bone.

My feet are killing me, my wet shoes rubbing my skin raw. I can feel blisters forming with each step.

"You okay?" Leon yells over the rain pelting us.

"Yeah, just remind me to wear better shoes the next time I get abducted!" I yell back.

He gives me a flat stare, obviously not finding the joke funny.

"We're going to have to cross this bridge!" He says, holding up an arm to block the rain from his eyes. "I think there's a house up ahead, we can rest there for a while!"

"Okay, let's hurry up!" I say.

Leon begins jogging towards the bridge as the wind picks up. We're both trying hard to see in the rain by blocking it from our faces as best we can. Once we step onto the bridge, though, I make the mistake of looking down.
