Everyone knew that there was always going to be the chance it would go nuclear given the history between Australia and Europe.

They fried eachother and they are nothing but wastes filled with irradiated beasts. The neighbors of these once great nations got as close as they could without suffering severe health complications and the pictures they took were horrific.

Words cannot describe the monstrosities witnessed in newspapers once the images were leaked.

Our governments in the Western hemisphere began to work together to figure out ways to preserve our way of life should something as devastating as the EuroAustralia Devastation occured.

The military got involved and so did a tech company that specialized in the utilization of recycled materials and resources. They worked together for months before coming to the public and announcing their solution to everyone's number one fear.

"We will build self sustaining shelters, there will be food, water, there will be verticle farms installed and a large amount of seeds in each vault to grow."

The spokesperson was wearing military fatigues under a white lab coat with the signia of the tech company. Her hair was pulled into a tight bun and she had a pair of wide frame glasses. She was young and maybe she was chosen to represent the future. Afterall these plans were being implemented to protect our future.

"Water is key to our survival and so we are still figuring out the specifics of a renewable water source. Including using several underground water wells to better the chances of our survival."

Her voice was stern and she represented everything our society wanted from the younger generations.

She rattled off more information like she was one of the bots that could be found on the street, salvaging material people have left out for them. Throwing out only what was considered actual trash. They spoke with a monotone voice, not a single piece of emotion was to be found. They were considered a member of the police force, a firefighter , a garbage collector, a salvager.

They had a hold in every industry.

Just like how the collaboration had a hold in every single little law that was passed, every new regulation, all the experimentation to find the perfect result that could further human life in case the worst case scenario would come into play.

Every school was built with a shelter in the basement, all building were connected underground and only 2 out of every 10 offices or work placed were outfitted with a shelter.

Care homes for the elderly had a small one meant for the medical staff and whomever they could grab at the time.

Daycares had tunnels connecting to care homes.

So many new building regulations and laws were made to make sure that there was the highest possible number for survivors in case of total atomic annihilation.

You had to be rich enough if you wanted to afford your own personal shelter, you could invite anyone you wanted to join you.

But the shelters throughout the western world had one single rule for when the worst came into play.

"First come, first serve."

There were population caps on the shelters. They couldn't save everyone, it was just meant to save as many as they could. But once the population cap was reached they would close the doors on everyone else outside.

From there, each shelter already had a pre elected head. They just had to establish the rules, the law enforcement, jobs, and every other role that needed to be filled.
