Micah and I woke up alone, Judy was long gone for her testing time and it left us with not much to do except tidy up after movie night. We dumped any dirty laundry down the chute in the bathroom and made the bed again, swept, mopped and after that we both stood outside the bathroom door. While the three of us werent messy by any means, it was still a chore no one enjoyed doing.
"Lets get this over with." Micah grumbled as he slid the door open before stepping inside, I followed behind him and grimaced at the dark stain in the center of the room. We hadnt been able to entirely erase the traces of the dead Doctor from our bathroom and unfortunately it seems like he would be sticking with us for the durtation of time that we are here. I wandered over to a small panel on the wall and pressed a few buttons before a music selection popped up.
"What do we feel like listening to today?" I asked glancing over at him as he stopped what he was doing and walked over. He looked at it curiously before looking back at me with an incredulous expression.
"This is how you guys played music while in the shower?" He asked, clearly unimpressed that Judy and I didnt simply explain that it was in the control panel settings rather then just vaguely saying that it was somewhere in the bathroom. I smiled slightly and lightly jabbed him in the side with my elbow before gesturing back to the console. He sighed and began scrolling through it to see what the options were, the more he scrolled the more disappointed he seemed in the selections.
"Its... all music made in the Shelter.." He stated in a monotone voice, his disapointment was almost dense enough to cut with a knife with how much it came off him in waves.
"Keep your disapointment to yourself Micah, I happen to know how to find the preShelter music." He tensed up for a second realizing that he was indeed leaking emotions once more and immediately the feeling vanished from the room and he looked over at me curiously as I took back control of the console and quickly filtered out content that popped up within the last 135 years. I showed him the results and he made a surprised noise before quickly scrolling and finding the song he was looking for.
The soft melody began to play through the speakers in the bathroom. The song was familiar but it wasnt familiar enough for me to be able to hum along or remember the lyrics. It was catchy and the sound was refreshing and made it easier to get into the grove of cleaning. I started with the floor, taking out our scrub brush and bucket from the closet. I filled it with the appropriate cleaner and some hot water, put some gloves on and kneeled down. Scrubbing the floors starting with the corner under the sink all the way to the shower and bathroom entrances. Micah had dissapeared into the shower room and judging from how his blurred shape was moving behind the frosted glass he was scrubbing the walls.
I went back to the stain in the middle of the bathroom, scrubbing extra hard to see if I could get it to lighten even slightly. I felt heavy with my own guilt and whenever we cleaned the bathroom I always found myself returning to this one spot. I'd scrub until my hands were raw if no one stopped me. It felt like this one stain ended up staining not just the floor but the entirety of myself as well.
I just wanted this stain to go away.
The sound of the shower room door sliding open startled me out of my focus and I sat back on my knees to glance towards Micah properly. He was staring down at me from his position in the doorway. He looked concerned and he glanced between me and the stain on the floor a few times before sighing.
"Help me in here." He simply stated before turning back into the shower room, leaving the door open behind him. I sat there for a moment, maybe a moment too long as he poked his head back out the door and stared at me in contemplation for a few moments before stepping out. He seemed to hesitate for a few moments before making up his mind and approaching the panel on the wall. His brows were furrowed in concentration as he skimmed through the songs available, he seemed to eventually give up and just select something random. An upbeat tune filled the air, he took a deep breath and it looked like he was trying to get over something. Micah turned towards me and hesitantly walked over he stood before me before eventually falling to his knees. His face was conflicted and he fiddled with the hem of his shirt for a few moments before taking a deep breath and locking his gaze with my own.
