"Aspen!" You immediately stop in your tracks, and slowly turn to look at your father. He had caught you again before you ever got the chance to make a getaway. He holds up your obnoxiously large coat on his fingers, and you roll your eyes at him. "The world is getting colder."
"I'm just going to the car," you pout at him, but he doesn't stop putting the coat on you.
"One day, not tomorrow, but in the future, the world is going to be covered in ice and snow," here we go again. The same spill constantly. People had been calling your father crazy, but he didn't care. He had a mission, and he was going to make sure you stayed safe and warm. "Don't roll your eyes at me young lady."
"Honey, leave her be. She's a child," your mother's hand runs on his back, before sliding down his arm, and grabbing his hand. "But, your father is right. It's freezing, and will only get colder," whispering out a thank you, your father leans forward to kiss on your mother's snowflake necklace. "And good thing we will be prepared," she gives you a little tap to you nose, handing over some gloves. "The quicker you're dressed properly, the quicker we can go to the movies."
"Is that weird boy going to be there?" You grumble putting on your gloves.
"Yes. And you will respect that boy. One day, he could very well save your life," your father interjects quickly. "You just need to learn to trust me. Everything I do, I do it for you. Always. I want the best future for my daughter. And sometimes sacrifices have to be made. And start calling that weird boy, Curtis! And don't roll your eyes at me."
Your mother smiles, holding out a hand for you. "Your father means well. He's just been getting criticized from the whole world. Always remember, sacrifices have to be made."
"Fine. Can I get sour gummy worms?"
"Of course, my sweet Snowbunny."

"He has the mark?" Your father asks a man sitting behind you and your mother. The strange Curtis had fallen asleep a few seats down on the same row as you. You try to ignore everything that they're saying, and the one time you looked at them, you got a swat to your leg. You didn't like how Curtis had chuckled at your misery. You just wanted to know what it was they were discussing.
"Aspen, go up a few rows if you can't focus," your mother scolds, and you flip your head towards Curtis when he snickers, pointing over at him. "He's laughing because you're entertaining when you get in trouble. Pay attention to the movie."
