Lisa whirled around, heart pounding, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. In the moonlight, she saw a figure emerge from the trees, tall and imposing. The sight of Kai, his eyes blazing with an intense energy, halted her steps.
"No, don't go near it!" He warned, his voice echoing in the still night. He quickly closed the distance between them, positioning himself between her and the portal.
"Aren't you... the jacket guy?" Lisa wondered, her eyes darting between Kai and the pulsating portal. Kai hesitated, grappling with what he should say.
"I... I'm here to help," he managed finally. His answer felt insufficient in the face of her confused expression. Still, he held her gaze, trying to communicate his sincerity.
Meanwhile, in the undergrowth, two of the Aether soldiers watched the scene unfold, their instructions from General Tae clear in their minds. They were to observe, to assess the situation and report back. Yet, as they watched Kai converse with the girl, they couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The presence of the portal, its light dancing in the darkness, spoke volumes of the gravity of the situation. This was more than they had imagined.
Back in the Aether realm, Master Sebong and General Tae awaited news from their soldiers. They knew the gravity of their mission - they were not only dealing with a potential reappearance of the Shadow Clan, but also the risk of revealing the existence of the Aether realm and the ancestral clans to the human world.
Lisa glanced once more at the portal, its shimmering light reflecting in her wide eyes. A rush of adrenaline surged through her, curiosity mingling with fear. "What is that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kai followed her gaze, and for a moment, they were both lost in the hypnotic dance of the portal's shimmering colors. "It's a gateway," he began, but his voice was drowned by the intensity of the portal's pull.
Without a thought, driven by an impulse she didn't understand, Lisa took a step, then another, and finally, she plunged into the portal. As she entered, she felt a sudden rush, a sensation of déjà vu. Fragments of forgotten memories played out: the portal's iridescent glow, the tingling sensation of crossing realms, and that silhouetted figure from her dreams, always just out of reach, his face a mystery shrouded in shadows.
Before she could process it all, a sharp gust of icy wind hit her, causing her to stumble and fall. Picking herself up, she found herself staring into the startled eyes of Kai, who had, seemingly on pure impulse, jumped in right after her. The portal closed with a faint, wistful sigh, leaving them in an unfamiliar, frigid world.
From a hill not far from where the portal once stood, soldiers of the Aether realm had seen it all. The necklace's energy had guided them, and they had seen Lisa's fearless entry, followed by Kai's unexpected pursuit. But now, with the portal gone, they were powerless to follow. The soldier in command took out a signaling device, its light cutting through the icy haze, signaling back their findings to General Tae.
Inside the Grand Hall in the Aether realm, tension was palpable. "She went in, and Kai... he followed her," came the soldier's report. General Tae's expression was a mask of suspicion. "Kai's loyalty is in question. They might be allies."
Master Sebong, ever the wise one, cautioned patience. "Kai has always been led by his curiosity. This isn't betrayal, but a yearning to understand. We need to tread carefully."
But the General was relentless. "We need to find them."
As discussions ensued in the Aether realm, Lisa and Kai found themselves in a surreal world, a mystical version of the North Pole. The icy ground crunched beneath their feet, every step a reminder of the biting cold. Overhead, the aurora borealis swirled, a silent symphony of colors, casting ghostly reflections on the snowy expanse.
Lisa, still in disbelief, confronted Kai. "Are you part of this trip? Did my subconscious hire you as some sort of guide?" Her voice edged with a mix of confusion and sarcasm.
Kai, equally lost, responded, "Who are you exactly? Are you part of the ancestral clans?"
She looked at him, her confusion only deepening. To Lisa, Kai seemed like a dream, or rather a hallucination. She ate the berries offered by the old lady and now her subconscious was playing tricks? But when he came close, his presence felt overwhelmingly real. She tried to back away, but he caught her swiftly, pulling her close in an instinctive move to protect her from the chilling cold.
Their faces inches apart, the warmth of their breaths mixing in the cold air. Time seemed to stand still. The electric tension between them was palpable. Driven by the raw emotion of the moment, Lisa tilted her face upwards, her lips meeting Kai's. Their kiss was slow and deep, a dance of warmth and need. Every sensation heightened, they explored each other, losing themselves in the passion of the moment.
As they parted, Kai looked into Lisa's eyes, searching for an answer he himself didn't have. The kiss had been impulsive, a reaction to the undeniable pull between them. But now, with Lisa's unconscious state, he felt a mix of guilt and concern.
Kai's reflexes kicked in, as he swiftly lifted Lisa and made his way through the snowy landscape, following distant lights. As the shadows of a village began to form, its inhabitants—draped in thick, embroidered cloaks—paused in their activities to watch the unfamiliar figure approach, carrying another in his back.
Seeing their desperate state, a few villagers rushed forward, guiding Kai towards the home of their healer.
The structure stood out with intricately carved designs and glowing symbols embedded in its walls.
Inside, the healer—a wise-looking elderly woman with braided silver hair—waited for them, having sensed their approach. As Kai laid Lisa down, the healer began to hum an ancient tune, her fingers moving gracefully over Lisa's pale form, weaving a spell of warmth and revival.
Kai watched in awe, his anxiety evident. "Why did she faint? Is she going to be okay?"
The healer looked up, her eyes sharp and filled with a deep knowledge. "Her spirit is fighting the cold," she said cryptically, "instead of embracing it."
Kai frowned, trying to decipher the healer's words. "I don't understand. What do you mean?"
The healer paused in her humming and met Kai's gaze. "In time, you might. But for now, she needs to find balance in herself."
Still not entirely grasping the concept, Kai shifted gears. "Where... where are we?"
"We are in the realm of the Ice Clan," the healer responded. "A place where not many outsiders venture."
Before Kai could probe further, a stir from the makeshift bed interrupted them. Lisa's eyelids fluttered, slowly regaining consciousness.
"Why are you still in my trip?" she asked, her voice weak, "When will this hallucination end?"
Kai leaned closer, his voice firm, "Lisa, this is no hallucination. This... is reality."
The weight of Kai's words settled in, and Lisa's eyes widened, realizing the truth in his words.
