Chapter 3: The Boonta Eve Podrace

Once the storm was over, and they were done eating dinner, Anakin and Anna went to tell Watto that they wanted to be in the Boonta Race.

Qui-Gon, Padmé, Jar Jar, and Artoo went with them. As they walked through the streets, Padmé was having thoughts about the whole thing.

Padmé: "Are you sure about this? Trusting our fate to children we hardly know?" (She asked Qui-Gon) "The queen will not approve."

Qui-Gon: "The queen doesn't need to know." (He simply replied)

Padmé: "Well, I don't approve." (She sulked, sitting on a crate outside Watto's shop)

Qui-Gon just gave Padmé a look as he walked into the shop where the Skywalker twins were talking to Watto.

Watto: "The children tell me you want to sponsor him in the race. How can you do this? Not on the Republic credits, I think, huh?"

Qui-Gon pulled a small object out of his pocket, and a hologram of the Alderaanian spacecraft appeared on it.

Qui-Gon: "My ship will be the entry fee." (He replied)

Watto: "Oh, not bad! Not bad, huh? A Nubian, huh?"

Qui-Gon: "It's in good order, except for the parts I need." (He explained as he turned the device off)

Watto: "What would the boy ride? He smashed up my pod in the last race. It will take some long time to fix it."

Anakin: "It wasn't my fault, really. Sebulba flashed me with his vents."

Anna: "You know, what I told you earlier." (She whispered to Qui-Gon. He gives her a slight nod to show that he remembered)

Anakin: "I actually saved the pod, mostly."

Watto: "Mmm. That you did, huh." (Chuckles) "The boy's good. No doubts there, huh?"

Anna: "Yeah. Ani is a good pilot, but when he wrecks the pods, he really does a number on them. I've been trying to fix the one from the last race, but it may take a while. I don't think that it will be finished in time." (She said, playing along)

Qui-Gon: "I have acquired a pod in a game of chance, the fastest ever built." (He replied, looking at the twins)

Watto: "I hope you didn't kill anyone I know for it, huh?" (He asked, jokingly) "So, you supply the pod and the entry fee, and I supply the boy. We split the winning, um, 50-50, I think, huh?"

Qui-Gon: "If it's going to be 50-50, I suggest you front the cash for the entry. If we win, you keep all the winnings, minus the cost of the parts I need. And if we lose, you keep my ship. Either way, you win."
