Mal diligently colors in her drawing of Fairy Godmother's wand, doing her best to block out the sound of Tinker Bell's voice droning on in the background. Immersed in her task, she envisions her mother's disappointed expression, which only fuels her determination. Adjusting the headphones she's wearing, she grumbles to the brunette princess seated beside her.
"Why do we have to wear these stupid headphones?" she mutters, casting a sidelong glance at her classmate.
"Because they help us hear her voice better. Can't you see how tiny she is?" the royal girl responds, demonstrating the size with her fingers.
"Twenty years after the battle between Captain Hook and Peter Pan, Hook is banished to the Isle of the Lost along with other villains. He has three children: Harriet Hook, Harry, and CJ," Tinker Bell narrates. Mal lets out an audible groan of frustration.
"Why do I even have to take this class? I know all of this already! Captain Hook was my neighbor, for Auradon's sake," she complains to her companion.
"Because it's a core subject, Mal," the princess retorts, her tone calm. Mal slumps back in her seat, not particularly thrilled about the necessity of the subject. Observing the scene at the misfit's table, the princess comments, "You're quite obsessed with the wand too, huh?" This earns her a puzzled look from her seat-mate.
"What? Evie's into it as well. She made me sit with her during lunch just to discuss it," Mal explains. The revelation makes her eyes widen.
"Wait, did she tell you why she's so fixated on it?" Mal inquires further.
The brunette shrugs casually. "I don't know. I'm assuming it's because the wand is one of the most powerful objects in Auradon." A sigh of relief escapes Mal's lips.
After a brief pause, the princess tentatively raises another question. "Does Evie confide in you about everything in her life?" The question catches Mal off guard, and she sits up straight before answering.
"Well, yeah. We're best friends," she responds, her confusion apparent. The brunette sighs, and Mal suddenly realizes something with an almost wicked smile.
"Did E confront you?" she teases, her eyes twinkling. The princess meets her gaze with an inscrutable expression. Mal chuckles.
"You have no idea how confused we were when we found out. Seriously, two names and no last name? You're like a riddle." The princess opens her mouth to reply, but she quickly shushes the misfit, worried about drawing attention.
Leaning in closer, Mal whispers, "Is that also why you always wear gloves? What's up with that?" The princess runs a hand through her hair, avoiding a direct answer. In an instant, Mal's eyes widen with realization.
"You have ice magic, don't you?" she gasps. The white-streaked girl immediately covers Mal's mouth with her gloved hand. Mal contains her excitement, and after a moment, the princess removes her hand.
"How is that even possible? You're Queen Anna's daughter, not Elsa's," Mal states, baffled. The brunette's response is a sigh and another gesture for silence. "Fine, but we're discussing this after class, princess," Mal insists, determination in her tone. The royal girl averts her gaze, clearly reluctant.
Mal playfully pokes her. "By the way, which name do you prefer?" The princess gives her a pointed glare, prompting Mal to stifle a laugh. "Guess that's another topic for later."
Their hushed conversation is abruptly interrupted by Tinker Bell, who flits toward Mal with an annoyed expression. Clearly displeased with the disruption in her class, the fairy scowls at the misfit, her frustration evident. Mal offers a sarcastic smile.
