It's Gonna Be a Long, Hot Summer
The drive from the Lewis' home from the suburbs of Boston to Cousins was a little over two hours, but Caroline couldn't complain. Both siblings could drive, but the eldest drove the first half of the trip to save her mother from a headache.
"Caro you're going so slow. Go at least ten above the speed limit." Finn complained from the backseat.
"Don't comment on your sisters driving. And since she's driving my car, going the speed limit is fine."
After over an hour of driving Caroline was fed up with her brothers comments. "I don't know how, but I will find a way to hit you with the car Finn."
The younger male ignored his sisters comment and went back on his phone. "Jeremiah keeps texting me asking how close we are"
"Tell him we'll be there in about twenty minutes. Caroline pull off at the gas station coming up and we'll switch." Delilah instructed both her kids as Caroline pulled off the road.
They parked the car and Caroline quickly hopped out to grab her favorite gas station snacks as her mother followed behind. The girl scoured the aisles until she found the biggest bag of sour skittles she could find and walked up to the register.
The boy at the register looked about college age and his name tag read 'Jumper'; which Caroline found to be an odd name. Jumper looked her up and down while ringing up her purchase.
"Have I seen you around before?"
Caroline made a face before responding to the boy, since he gave her weird vibes.
"Um, maybe? I come here like every summer so who knows."
"I thought I knew every pretty girl in cousins." The boy said with a smirk that made Caroline wanna throw up.
"There's gonna be a bonfire tomorrow night on the beach if you wanna come."
"Yeah sure, I'll think about it." The girl said to try and end the conversation as fast as possible.
Thankfully her mother came up to end the small, but gross, interaction. Though Jumper also gave Delilah a quick look over which made Caroline even more sick.
Once they were back in the car, Caroline's favorite part of the drive started. She loved staring out the open window as Delilah slowly made her way through Cousins. The salt air whipped the girls blonde hair around, and she didn't even care that her bangs were getting messed up. To her, Cousins beach was the most perfect place in the world. Passing by the shops and restaurants she's known her whole life made her even more giddy since they were so close to the summer house.
