Tales of The Wallking Dead

Chapter 15

They'd gotten to the chopper just in the nick of time as once they stepped onto the helicopter, gunshots and sirens started blaring as the words 'walkers!' 'biters!' And 'lurkers!' Could be heard echoing from around the QZ. "Impeccable timing guys." Jacob said as Connor sat with Lily at the cockpit as he'd been trained in all things army for the last 6 days. "What the fuck are even these controls?!" Connor exclaims as he looks at all the buttons and levers on the control panel. "Don't worry I can get it flying... I think." Lily said in an unreassuring tone. Jacob poked his head through the cockpit door. "Alright lovebirds quit kissing and get us flying please." He said as he went back to the main sitting area. Lily fiddled with the controls for a bit until the blades on the top started to spin and soon the helicopter was lifting off the ground. Connor took hold of the driving stick. "I know how to drive it... mostly. And you know how to stop us from crashing so we can work together on this." Connor said giving a nervous smile. "Yeah.. yeah. Flight, that sounds good." Lily said as Connor clumsily steered the helicopter out of its landing pad and into the air when he then started moving it in an entirely random direction just barely able to keep the thing stable as he'd fallen asleep when they taught him helicopter safety and control. 

As Lily and Connor made a team effort to keep the helicopter in the air a light suddenly started blaring above head. The light read 'warning! Engine petrol low. Please descend quickly!' And by the time it was pointed out to Connor he looked ahead and saw what seems like a clear field up ahead. He tried to steer towards the field but a gust of wind knocked him off course and sent him veering off course towards some trees just as the helicopter began to lose height. With the helicopter falling rapidly, Connor and Lily both unable to regain control of it them and the group were sent in a hard crash into a small forest area and everyone in the group got knocked out from the force of the fall and the sudden impact as this entire series of events took place in just under 40 seconds. As the smoke began to clear, Sophie was the first to reawaken and crawled out from under the helicopter seeing everyone's stuff had fallen out around the crash sight. She staggered over to her bag when she looked down and saw a sharp branch sticking out of her abdomen and the stick had plugged the bleeding but the shock caused Sophie to faint.

Clementine was the next to wake up and she crawled out from under the helicopter with a splitting headache as she'd been hit by something on the way down. She struggled to her feet just in time to see Sophie collapse to the floor from the shock of her injury and the leftover aftershock of the crash. Jacob woke up next but his seat buckle was stuck as it was jammed by something and just refused to unbuckle, no matter how hard he tried. This was a problem as there was an excess amount of smoke coming from the crash and it was slowly filling up the main cabin and would surely suffocate him. Freyja woke up next and was able to undo her belt buckle and saw Jacob struggling to undo his. She slowly made her way over to him and using a knife she found back in the helicopter's loading room had to quite literally cut Jacob free of his seatbelts and just in time as he'd nearly passed out from asphyxiation. 

Hannah was the last of the non cockpit crew to wake up and she crawled out of the helicopter to see everyone crowded around Sophie not sure what to do because nobody has medical experience and if the stick was left in, she'd surely get an infection but if they took the stick out she'd bleed to death in about 5 minutes so either way they had a couple problems on their hands. Once a few minutes had passed by the smoke from the crash and gotten considerably worse and it was heating up as well. Nobody had seen Connor or Lily step out of the cockpit to show they were still alive when all of a sudden the left side door was kicked down and Connor rolled out with Lily in his arms chocking very heavily from the carbon dioxide in the helicopter. Lily however was in a much worse state as something must've broke loose from the helicopter on the way down as her hand was as flat as a pancake and super purple and was also bleeding profusely.

Once Connor recovered himself and started breathing oxygen again he explained what had happened before and after the crash. "I was gonna point out how windy things were before we left the QZ but it was only a mild breeze so I thought nothing of it. However I should've thought something of it clearly as it was a strong gust of wind that knocked me off course and we started descending because we'd been running the helicopter on fumes for the entire ride and it finally have out." Connor took a sip of water and carried on with his story. "Then when I woke up the entire half of the control panel has come fully loose and Lily's hand was underneath it. Connor goes and lifts the console up and tried to calm Lily down. As he finished his story the new threat made themselves known. The walkers surrounding the area had heard the crash and were drawn to it like moths to a light. Everyone was now fully awake (aside for Lily and Sophie) and aware of the severity of the situation with 2 members unconscious with one bleeding heavily and needing an amputation and the other under threat of either bleeding to death or contracting some sort of infection.

The one person with gun experience in the group was a little out of it but drew the pistol from its holster and opened fire on the walkers. Connor was taken aback by how forceful a pistols recoil could be but carried on shooting walkers while others drew whatever sharp object they had on them and started stabbing. As the fight between the walkers raged on, while nobody was looking a walker snuck through the group and was about to bite down into Sophie which Jacob and Connor both noticed and as Jacob ran for the walker Connor placed a lucky shot in the walkers head and it fell on top of her, no bite marks visible. Once the ammo in Connor's pistol has ran dry he didn't wanna waste more so he dropped all his stuff down and picked up the axe he'd fashioned around his bag instead of the military belt he'd been provided and started hacking away at walkers. The walkers wouldn't stop coming so the group were forced to grab their bags and make a mad dash away from the crash and into the open where they had more room to work with and could get away from situations easier. Jacob carried Sophie on his shoulders and Connor had to help Freyja carry Lily as Freyja was too weakened from the crash to do it herself and they sprinted for about a minute or two when they finally made the clearing and they all stopped dead in their tracks.

"This is a cruel twist of fate." Jacob announced rather loudly. "Connor. Explain to me how we always end up where you have history? First Asda now here?" Jacob asked but Connor's gaze was far too focused on a red building in the distance. "What do you mean history?" Hannah asked as she looked around but couldn't place the area. "Yeah, where are we Connor?" Clementine asked and Connor finally turned around with a relatively grim look on his face. "It's the area Jacob said we'd have to cut through to get back home." Connor said and people seemed to get it now. "Oxgangs." He added as he turned around to reveal what the red building was. "That's my primary school over there." Connor explained. "That right there is St. Mark's RC Primary School." He said but before he could sigh he spotted some fissures moving in the window. "Holy shit!" Jacob exclaimed after following Connor's gaze. "There's people in there."
