"And that's when Anna said I was – officially – not allowed near the canister of flour, again," Sebastian laughed. "But Eli was happy—though a bit of a mess," he said through his deep, resonant chuckle.
If Jo's thirst for Sebastian was a perpetual simmer deep within her gut, his laughter was the most consistent ignitor to bring it to boiling. Finishing the meal of smoked salmon and potatoes she had prepared for him – something that only ever happened upon occasion, given that her volatile work schedule denied her the opportunity to routinely show him love in this way – she found herself burning for him even more hotly than she had been yesterday when she read his letter.
His additional stories of little Eli and Noctua were melting her, and even more so to hear them in person.
He would throw his head back to laugh about his time spent playing with the children, exposing the vulnerable sinews of his throat and the impressive architecture of his Adam's apple.
Lick.
The long, thick locks of his cocoa-colored hair graced against his freckled forehead when he moved.
Brush.
The fire and candlelight danced across his skin, bronze and tanned from spending time in the summer sun.
Nibble.
The tiny muscles of his arms rippled in and out of view as he gripped at and played with his glass of whiskey.
Wring.
Jo could practically hear the way it would sound to run her fingers along his day's long stubble that was peeking against his chin like a shadow.
Graze.
When he spoke, she became mesmerized by the fullness of his lips that had a permanent smirk set into the corners, due to the years of mischief that had begun to solidify subtle lines up into his cheeks.
Crash.
Her mouth went dry as she imagined the way this man – her perfect Sebastian – cared or his adoring nieces and nephews; holding them, loving them, spoiling them. They provided Sebastian the perfect vessel for him to be his boyish, goofy self, a strong and protective leader, and to heal the wounds within himself that denied him such an experience as a child.
"Sebastian!" Jo found herself blurting, unceremoniously. It was too much to bear. She was burning, and she could feel her body flooding itself in anticipation of her wanting him.
He stopped talking abruptly but held onto his large grin, surprised but delighted. "...what? What is it?"
She felt her cheeks blush and noted the way his bottom eyelids rose up with perplexed intrigue. "Why are you blushing, my dearest heart?" Sebastian asked, laying on his undeniable charisma that he had long ago learned could earn him just about anything he desired.
Josephine hated to keep secrets. The raw transparency she and Sebastian had embraced from the beginning, divulging their deepest hopes and fears amidst navigating their trials during their school years, had only ever brought them closer and secured their indelible bond of utter devotion and belonging to the other.
"I need to tell you something, love," Jo said after a long, shuttering inhale.
Sebastian was suddenly concerned. Rarely did she begin sentences that way. Rarely did she have to. He stood immediately and offered his hand to the queen of his life, inviting in a much gentler tone, "come sit with me, and tell me everything."
Her hand willingly slipped into his. He always loved how cool her touch was, despite the warmth that emanated from the rest of her body. Before long, they were cuddled in their favorite oversized, plaid chair, as they had spent so many evenings and lazy mornings of their marriage. They took a moment to enjoy the way it felt to hold one another, to be reunited after his week away; Sebastian placing sweet kisses along Jo's jaw, and Jo running her fingernails throughout his scalp which always caused his eyes to roll back into his head.
