Dime store and a phone book

Once I got home, I felt like kicking myself for not getting that girls number.. “Golly, she sure was pretty..” I muttered to myself as I walked home.

I didn't talk to girls all that often, and when I did they sure weren't that good looking.

Walking home alone, I had a lot of time to think about the project.. I didn't have anything to write about except a trip to the zoo and I didn't want Abby thinking I was weird.

I had promised Johnny to meet him by the lot, he didn't go to school because teacher's always hassled him about his grades almost as much as his parents did, I thought about goin’ to see a movie in the theater but decided not to rememberin how Darry had hollered at me last time.

I stopped by a dime store down the street from the park, I knew we didn't have a phone book at home (Two-bit had burned it in a rumble as celebration once) and I wanted to check if there were any “Abby's” in the book.

Sliding the dime one the counter I grabbed a large yellow book from a shelf beside the counter and walked out as I skimmed through the pages.

I called the first number under ‘A’ hoping it was her..
